"Our
Greatest Inheritance"
Message
summary: We have an inheritance guaranteed forever in
Christ's enduring Kingdom.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:3-5). Neither Brooksyne nor I know a lot about our
genealogy and it’s a subject neither of us have had
much interest in, although we're finding that as we
get older we're more curious about our roots.
Both sets of our parents passed on to their
eternal reward, my mother being the most recent in
2005. Our parents lived a middle class lifestyle; my
dad was a tradesman
(plumbing/heating/air-conditioning). Brooksyne's dad
was a farmer/truck driver. We each received a modest
inheritance from our parent's estates which was split
among our siblings. We're grateful that our parents
provided for us while we were growing up under their
roof and also considered our needs after their
departure from this world.
Several years after our parents died Brooksyne received a letter from an attorney in California informing her that she was a descendant of Marion E. Lott, who had died and left no will. They were searching for her descendants in order to distribute her estate. Brooksyne initially thought it was an error since she’d never heard of this woman but, by examining the names of other descendants listed, she had some sense of how she was related. Over the next several years she periodically received letters informing her of the progress of the estate settlement. This of course created a mystique as to who was this wealthy distant ancestor. We wondered if she had residual wealth from the gold rush or perhaps recent wealth from the tech industry. But we had no idea how much Brooksyne was going to get since the amount was undisclosed. Well, the matter was finally settled and
Brooksyne received a check for $153.99. It was
an unexpected blessing to receive a gift from an
unknown ancestor, though it’s certainly not an amount
that made a difference in our lifestyle!
There are inheritances of monetary or property value. There are character and physical traits passed down through generations. And there are spiritual blessings that are passed from one generation to the next. Brooksyne can trace her spiritual lineage back at least three generations. But today let us consider our greatest
inheritance, an inheritance we all share equally. This
inheritance is far, far better than any earthly
inheritance, either large or small. It's an
inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and
unfading, kept in heaven for us, who by God's power
are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready
to be revealed in the last time.
Instability surrounds us and uncertainty
continues to knock at our door. We wonder, what’s
next? Some of you are being battered about with issues
in your own life. We can all sense the travails of the
fallen creation in our families, communities and
throughout the world. No matter our circumstance in
this life, remember that we have an imperishable
inheritance awaiting us in our life hereafter!
Our faith and focus must be on the source of this inheritance, the ever enduring Kingdom of Jesus Christ. In the angelic announcement to Mary prior to her miraculous conception we read these remarkable words concerning Jesus, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; His kingdom will never end” (Luke 1:30-33). Some 1,700 years after Christ’s first advent George Frideric Handel captured this truth in the most memorable portion of his epic work, “Messiah”. Considered by many to be the finest expression of praise in music, the Hallelujah Chorus, is performed all around the world. And He shall reign forever and ever,
King of kings! And Lord of lords! King of kings! And Lord of lords! And He shall reign forever and ever, King of kings! And Lord of lords! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Be encouraged today, (Hebrews 3:13)

Daily
prayer: Father, Scripture records that no eye
has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has
conceived the inheritance You have waiting for those
who love You. Even in our most vivid and
God-inspired dreams we can’t begin to imagine all
the joys and surprises that await us when we cross
to the other side. It is there that we be with
other ransomed souls in Your kingdom which has no
end, where we will sing in that grand Hallelujah
Chorus in heaven as our souls exalt Your glorious
praise. Hallelujah! Amen.

We

many
ministries, we
typically see
a spike in
giving at the
end of the
year for which
we are most
thankful.
Our ministry labor is comprised of approximately half our time to Daily Encouragement and the other half to our chaplaincy ministry to companies from which we receive compensation. Each of these ministries essentially is the same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of us. Our goal for many years is that each would provide half of our ministry expenses and income. Resources for Christmas Celebrations
(We
will leave these resources posted below
our daily messages through Christmas)
Each
year
we share several online resources that
we have used over the years. Perhaps
they may be a blessing to you, your
family or church during this Christmas
season.
"In Remembrance of Me" pdf This is a passion-filled Scripture reading for two adults. Brooksyne and I have used this reading with great receptivity during Christmas Eve services over the years. We suggest, if possible, a musical background as the message is read. It is also a great lead-in to a Communion service. It should be thoroughly practiced and read with great feeling. Here's a great Communion Hymn for Christmas (Video) "When Christ Was Born" pdf This is an adaptation to the tune of "How Great Thou Art". It's a great song to sing as a congregation since most are familiar with and love the tune. Responsive Christmas Scripture readings for church or family: John 1:1-18 pdf "O Come Let Us Adore Him" pdf My First Christmas In Heaven This is a blessed reminder for all who lost a loved one this year. Christmas Knowledge Test We have also posted two Christmas carol quizzes here (scroll down).
