"The
Danger Of A Hot Temper"
Message
summary: May we all seek to demonstrate
the spiritual fruit of self-control today and especially see
that fruit when a temper-inducing incident comes our
way. Let us not act foolishly but rather calmly as
we trust God in every situation.
“People
with a hot temper do foolish things; wiser people
remain calm” (Proverbs
14:17). "Don't make
friends with people who have hot, violent tempers.
You might learn their habits and not be able to
change" (Proverbs 22:24,25).
I
(Stephen) enjoy a number of spectator sports but
that joy has diminished in the last several years
due to the politicization of so many in sports. In
our younger years we both enjoyed playing tennis and
can still enjoy watching a good tennis match. Tennis
is very objective sport although of course a line
call is missed occasionally.
The
other day in the US Open tennis tournament Novak
Djokovic, the top seeded male player, defaulted due
to a very costly lapse in judgment and temperament.
In a brief moment of intemperance not uncommon in
tennis he mindlessly hit a ball back and struck a
line judge in the neck. What an example of how our
temper can get us into trouble!
Humans
have been getting into trouble due to their tempers
from the very beginning. Consider Cain, Balaam,
Haman, and many others. Temper problems are
practically universal and probably most of us can
recall a time(s) when we really didn't have good
control of our temper! I can sure think of a few in
my own life.
“People
with a hot temper do foolish things." So much
criminal activity is a result of poor temper control
or lack of self control. This is often exacerbated
by drugs and alcohol. When we served a church in
northern Pennsylvania we had a retired Los Angeles
police officer in our congregation. He told me a
high percentage of crime was directly related to
drugs, alcohol and temper.
"Wiser
people remain calm.” Among the fruit of the
Spirit is self-control which we all need. Lots of
stuff in life can cause anger and a hot temper but
self-control allows us to stay calm.
May we
all seek to demonstrate the spiritual fruit of
self-control today and especially see that fruit
when a temper-inducing incident comes our way. Let
us not act foolishly but rather calmly as we trust
God in every situation.
Be
encouraged today,

we rode along the Northwest
Lancaster County River trail twice, late
morning and early evening. It was great to see so
many out enjoying nature and the trail being so
busy. One route we rode along was the historic Front
Street in Marietta which has many older homes.
This
Front Street home has a 1790 build date.

the 15 star flag in front of this historic home,
like the flag that flew over Fort McHenry during the
War of 1812 and inspired the writing of the National
Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. The
miniature flag at the base of the front door
features a circle of 13 stars. Its distinguishing
feature is thirteen 5-pointed stars arranged in a
circle representing the 13 colonies that fought for
their independence during the American Revolutionary
War.

We want to thank all who
financially support our ministry. We
realize there are many fine ministries and
causes requesting support but if the Lord
would lead you we surely need and appreciate
the financial support from our readers and
listeners. Our ministry
labor is comprised of approximately half our
time to Daily Encouragement and the other half
to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for
which we receive compensation. Each of these
ministries essentially is the same as a
part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of
us. Our goal for many years is that each would
provide half of our ministry expenses and
income.
If you would consider making a donation to our ministry see here for more information. To donate directly online here. This will open to a page that designates the offering to: WEBER,STEPHEN CHAP, Specialized Chaplaincy Ministry ID: 700001-237376 ![]() Permissions:
