"A Word Fitly Spoken" Message
summary:
As the Lord
enables you,
be sure to
offer "a word
fitly spoken". Listen
to our message
on your audio
player. Pennsylvania
is one of the
top apple
growing
states. The
main apple
growing region
is in Adams
and Franklin
Counties to
our west where
there are
thousands of
acres of apple
orchards. But
apples are
grown all
through the
state
including our
area. In
fact apples
are grown in
each US state. The word “fitly” in the text translates a Hebrew word found only once in the entire Bible which conveys the sense of “in season”, (translated “aptly” in the NIV). The New American Standard Version uses the phrase, “a word spoken in right circumstances”.
So
the sense of
the Proverb
seems to be
that when you
say it and how
you say it
matters just
as much as
what you say.
A wise
response, a
timely piece
of advice, a
gentle rebuke,
or an
encouraging
word delivered
at the exact
moment it is
needed carries
profound
value. Here are several Scriptures with a similar theme: “A
man has joy in
an apt answer,
and how
delightful is
a timely
word!”
(Proverbs
15:23).
“The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary” (Isaiah 50:4). “For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.” (Jeremiah 31:25).
It
seems to me
that these are
God-ordained
words that go
right to the
heart, meeting
the need for
that
particular
circumstance.
I specifically
recall several
times in my
life when I
have received
a “word fitly
spoken”. Once,
shortly after
we were
married, I was
greatly
discouraged in
regard to
closed doors
of ministry
and Brooksyne
spoke eleven
meaningful
words she had
put to memory,
“God will
never lead us
where His
grace cannot
keep us.” It
didn’t change
the immediate
circumstances
but it gave me
a much more
hopeful
perspective
that I still
remember some
50 years
later. Who
needs to hear
(or read) such
a word from
you
today?
As you ask God
for divine
appointments
in your
workplace or
in your
surroundings
this day, may
you be mindful
of the needs
of those
around you. As
the Lord
enables you,
be sure to
offer "a word
fitly spoken". Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13. Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Yesterday
Ester and I
(Brooksyne)
picked up our
dear friend,
Dottie, at
Trilium Place
in Lancaster
and did a
little
shopping,
looking for
winter tops
and fall
decor. When we
returned she
was delighted
to see that
Trilium had
decorated the
front porch
with freshly
watered mums,
corn shocks,
pumpkins and
straw.

Larry, a

came over and
we rode our

Falcon seems
to enjoy going
