Donegal Springs
Donegal Springs is about 1 mile west of our house. It forms the head waters to Donegal Creek.

"I Got Saved!"

Note: Today I will be heading up to the mountains in northern PA with our friends, the Lapp family. I don't expect to post another message till Thursday, 8/20.

Message summary: Have you called on the Name of the Lord to be saved?

Listen to our message on your audio player.

"And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Acts 2:21). If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).

JR is a man we met in the course of our chaplain ministry about ten years ago. For the first several years he was cordial but really didn't seem too interested in conversing.

One afternoon Brooksyne was walking in the hallway and JR approached her. She could tell he had something on his mind. "There's something I want to talk with you and Stephen about" he told her. Shortly afterward we met up with JR and stepped into a more isolated area and JR proceeded to tell us, "I got saved". It turns out he had been a working alcoholic which may explain why he didn't have much to say to the chaplains.

But he hit rock bottom when his addiction finally caught up with him. On March 13, 2021 his wife found him unresponsive on the floor. She did CPR and he ended up in the hospital with a blood alcohol level .32 mixed with other prescription pills. When you hit rock bottom, the only choice is to climb to the light of freedom or stay in the dark abyss of addiction. JR got saved!

For the last five years+ we have visited with him as a fellow brother in Christ and seen God change him. He now has a very active ministry helping others overcome addictions.

We meet a lot of interesting people in the course of life. Not only do we see many people in our chaplain ministry but we make it our goal to let Christ's light shine through us wherever we go with whomever we see.

We enjoy a song with the simple title, "I Got Saved". The link is below if you want to hear the powerful words. A line that grips me so much states,

This sinner was plunged beneath the flood and got saved
Since then I walk in forgiveness
All of my guilt was erased

Romans 8:1 states, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus". The word "condemnation" from the original Greek means "an adverse sentence". Because of Christ's death on the cross we are no longer objects of God's wrath, but we are His beloved children and can experience the joy of "no condemnation" or as the song words it, "All of my guilt was erased."

On the Day of Pentecost Peter preached and quoting from Joel, an OT prophet, he set forth a foundational truth for the birth of the church and the rebirth for every repentant sinner, "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved".

The "everyone" is about as inclusive as you can get. That means you!

Today we must ask you:

Have you called on the Name of the Lord to be saved?

There is a river of gladness
That pours from Emmanuel's veins.
This sinner was plunged beneath the flood and got saved.
Since then I walk in forgiveness,
All of my guilt was erased.
The chains of the past are broken at last;
I got saved,
Oh, I got saved

Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13.

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, I thank You that I got saved. Your persistent and loving nature is to continue to seek and to save the lost. Thank you that men and women, boys and girls all over the world are still getting saved. Red and yellow, black and white, they're all precious in Your sight. We pray for JR and many others like him who came to faith after years of captivity to sin. Thank You God that Your grace  extends to those raised in a godly family, to those who have no spiritual roots and to those who have lost their way. You reach the uttermost who see their need and call on Your name to be saved. Amen

"I Got Saved"  Watch on YouTube  Shadow Mountain Community Church This song is a heartfelt reminder of God’s amazing grace, the joy of salvation, and the hope we have in Jesus Christ. This is the church pastored by David Jeremiah that we attend when we visit San Diego. The worship leader is Michael Sanchez. We are heartened by the joyful expressions of the choir members! This song  features children in the choir, something we don't recall seeing when we were there.

I'm restored and made right, He got a hold of my life!

JR and wife, Greg Barton and wife
Marcy (left) and JR (right) joined us in our Sunday School class yesterday. I taught a lesson on recognizing deception and growing in discernment and  introduced JR and shared a bit of his online testimony. Following class (after our church service) we took them out to the Longhorn Steak House to share fellowship over lunch.  A couple at a table near us recognized my voice from the 20+ years Brooksyne and I had a weekly spot on WDAC, our local Christian radio station. Upon leaving they came over and introduced themselves. Greg Barton has worked at the station since 1979 and is currently the news director. He is pictured in the middle along with his wife Louise. Interestingly, he knew us only by hearing my voice and when he began talking we recognized him only by his voice; that's the difference in radio personalities and television personalities!

A major emphasis for JR is "one day at a time".

Cameron Mansion
Behind Donegal Springs (our lead photo) is the Cameron Estate built in the 1800's. This is also behind Donegal Presbyterian Church established in 1740 and still holding services. The Donegal spring was essential for members who made long journeys to attend services in years past. The spring water provided refreshment for the horses, as well as the congregation who would enjoy a midday meal between morning and afternoon services prior to returning home. See here.
