Tuesday, November 26, 2024 An inviting trail in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park as the trees shed their leaves. As beautiful as it is to walk in the summer when everything is green the leaves dropping to the ground makes for much more visibility of the deeper parts of the forest. "Heaven's Boarding Pass" Message
summary:
Today make
sure you have
life's most
important
boarding pass
and that it is
confirmed! Listen to our message on your audio player. "In
your hearts
honor Christ
the Lord as
holy, always
being prepared
to make a
defense to
anyone who
asks you for a
reason for the
hope that is
in you; yet do
it with
gentleness and
respect" (1
Peter 3:15).
This
last Saturday
morning I
conducted a
funeral
service for a
longtime TSA
agent who
apparently
started when
the agency was
founded
following
9/11. He was
respected by
other TSA
agents as a
supervisor and
many were at
the service.
(TSA stands
for
Transportation
Security
Administration
which provides
security at
airports).
We
hope people
are especially
receptive to
the Gospel
truth at a
funeral
service since
we are
reminded of
the
inevitability
of death. I
wanted connect
with the TSA
agents and
seek to
present the
Gospel so I
developed a
message with a
TSA theme.
Using a phrase
from our daily
text I was
seeking to
give a reason
for the hope
that is in me.
We
only fly a
time or two a
year and have
not gotten any
of the
expedited type
services to
get through
TSA quicker.
We just go
through the
often long
line like most
people. The
first step is
an
agent confirms
your ID and
boarding pass.
Then there is
the security
check
for forbidden
items that may
jeopardize
safety,
including
scans of both
your
belongings and
person.
Consider
heaven's TSA,
which I
likened to the
proverbial
Saint Peter
at heaven's
gate,
approving or
denying
entrance
although this
is not taught
in the Bible.
Just
as certain
items are
forbidden when
going through
the TSA check
the Bible
makes it clear
certain items
(ways we have
lived our
lives) are
forbidden in
heaven. There
are several
lists followed
by, "I
warn you, as I
warned you
before, that
those who do
such things
will not
inherit the
kingdom of
God". such
as Galatians
5:19-21
and Ephesians
5:3-5. We
must not
ignore these
lists and
warnings.
But today we
primarily want
to consider
the only
boarding pass
suitable to
get through
heaven's TSA.
It's not good
works or
refraining
from evil
acts, although
these are
vitally
important as
we live our
lives and will
be a fruit of
genuine
conversion.
The
boarding pass
to heaven is
available to
all who repent
of their sins
and place
their trust in
Christ who
died for our
sins.
In
studying I
find that
there are
others (not
surprisingly)
who have used
a ticket or
boarding pass
to heaven as a
means of
witness such
as this
graphic.
I
concluded my
funeral
message with a
simple
presentation
of the Gospel
based on the
"Four
Spiritual
Laws"
God’s
love: John
3:16
Man’ sin: Romans 3:23 God’s provision John 14:6, Romans 5:8 Our response: John 1:12, Romans 10:9 Our response is to place out trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins and daily follow Him. Today I urge you to be sure you have your most important boarding pass and that it is confirmed!

prayer:
Father, thank
you for
providing us
with a
boarding pass
to heaven.
Because of
Your redeeming

sin problem.
We place our

Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources Special
Thanksgiving Resources
For many years we have offered these resources to families and church leaders to enrich the spiritual impact of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will leave these resources up through Thanksgiving Day. "Thankful
For The
Thorns": A
family reading
and exercise
that is a
wonderful way
to give a
thoughtful
focus around
your
Thanksgiving
Table. The
Thanksgiving
celebration
typically
includes
family coming
together for a
huge meal and
hopefully a
heartfelt
prayer of
thankfulness.
However it can
often be
difficult to
have a
spiritually
oriented
conversation.
Why not add
some
stimulating
discussion
about the ways
God has worked
in your life
over the past
year! Some of
you are not in
charge and are
only visitors
at your
Thanksgiving
gathering, but
if it is
possible share
together
around the
table the
theme of
"Thankful for
the Thorns" (printable
webpage).
A Thanksgiving prayer: Written by Joe Sherer, a pastor friend of ours and shared as the benediction at our community Thanksgiving Eve service many years ago. (printable webpage) For those who enjoy written prayers this would be a beautiful prayer to read together at the Thanksgiving table.
