Pets in stroller
Several weeks ago Ester found this "like new" pet stroller at our local Thrift Store for $10.00 and both dogs enjoy the ride. Interestingly, this very stroller costs over three hundred dollars online or at a pet store so she found quite a bargain!

"Invisible But Clearly Seen"

Message summary: Notice the paradox in our first daily verse: invisible qualities which are clearly seen.

Listen to our message on your audio player.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11).

We had one of those senior moment type experiences this last Saturday morning. Brooksyne will tell the story:

I got up at 5:30 Saturday morning since it was Super Saturday for choir (we practice our music with choir and orchestra 3 hours once a month). On these Saturdays we bring brunch type treats for our break time so we can eat and visit together. I decided to make Tomato Pie (cookie sheet size) since many enjoy it but it takes several hours to prepare.

Being the "considerate" wife that I am I didn't turn on the light so as not to disturb Stephen, but felt in the dark for my phone, water bottle, and my glasses. I closed the door quietly and headed upstairs to get to work.

Right away I felt that something was amiss with my vision but figured my eyes were still waking up. After a few minutes I took off my glasses, surprised at how dirty they were, and cleaned them thoroughly thinking that was the problem, but I continued to have blurred vision. Another few minutes passed as I was struggling to get my tomato pie ingredients together so I took off my glasses and rubbed my eyes thinking there was a film that was making everything blurry.

Still no change so my mind was now thinking of those I know who have major visual challenges and I sent up arrow prayers for them. Next I began to think of the possibility of cataracts since the ophthalmologist had warned me several years ago of the possibility. I was thinking to myself, "Is this how it works....one day you just wake up and everything is blurry"?

About that time Stephen joined me in the early morning hour. I told him of my problem and then tried to read the oversized words of a hymn that hangs in the kitchen. It was so blurry I couldn't make out those words. I was very troubled as I thought, "How in the world am I going to sing from the sheet music in the choir? What am I going to do? What is wrong with me?"

I looked at Stephen and said, "I'm really having a serious problem!" He turned around and looked at me and said, "Yes you are! You're wearing my glasses!"

Oh, my goodness! I laughed so hard it woke up Ester. Never did such a serious health problem get solved so quickly or easily as just switching out a pair of glasses. In my defense Stephen is wearing newer glasses that have very similar feel and are light weight like mine. I had mistakenly grabbed his from the shelf on our headboard where we store our glasses overnight.

We all like to see clearly don't we and for many it takes glasses with a prescription designed for eyes to do so. But we also need to see evidence of God clearly as well and in that case it takes faith. Notice the paradox in this verse: invisible qualities which are clearly seen. Let's look at the text that speaks of "seeing clearly" in regard to God’s creation and those things which are clearly seen as well as those present but invisible to the naked eye. Of course many now deny God and His creation but for others the reality of a Creator and His creation is, “clearly seen”.

Today’s Bible verse begins with a foundational statement consistent throughout the Scripture, “For since the creation of the world". Indeed the very first words in sacred Scripture declare, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth".

In our daily Bible text the Apostle Paul speaks of God’s “invisible qualities” as “His eternal power and divine nature”.  Paul uses a very interesting Greek word for “eternal” in this passage. The word aidios means “everduring” (forward and backward). This power is constant; there’s been no diminishment whatsoever from eternity past and there will be no diminishment in eternity future.

On the one hand God’s qualities are invisible but on the other hand they are “clearly seen being understood from what has been made".

I recall a story I read many years ago from Max Lucado when he was a missionary in Brazil. He records the arduous journey to a remote, barely accessible location to visit a Brazilian farmer. Upon introduction Max told the old farmer he was a missionary and explained that his work was to try to get people to believe in God. The farmer exclaimed what an easy job it must be to draw people to faith in God as he gestured to the massive evidences for creation that surrounded him. For him it was clearly seen. The farmer expressed a common sense and wisdom so lacking today in our age of unbelief.

The issues concerning origins are a source of major attack on the historic, Biblical Christian faith. Regrettably many feel they must concede in these areas in the face of seemingly scientific evidence. The alternative views that are more “scientifically enlightening” compel many to look to man’s errant, finite knowledge rather than the God of the Universe who has unfathomable understanding and infinite creative power. I can think of nothing on this earth, seen by the naked eye, that has infinite qualities, thus it requires faith on our part to grasp this aspect of God’s character.

From Genesis to Revelation the Scriptures unwaveringly and unambiguously proclaim the work of the Creator.

According to the daily text and certainly in my observation God’s invisible qualities are “clearly seen, being understood from what has been made". I pray that the Lord will open every reader’s eyes today to clearly see the glory of God and to believe and serve Him today. A song states,

“God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are Holy.

The universe declares Your majesty, You are Holy.

Lord of heaven and earth!

Today we respond by acknowledging the work of the Creator and say a solemn Amen to the apostle John when he wrote, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11).

Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13

Praying man Daily prayer: Father God, You reign in a place invisible to my eyes while Your Holy Spirit with His invisible qualities is at work deep within my heart. Though I cannot see You I recognize Your masterful handiwork. Though I cannot touch You I feel Your divine presence. Only a God like You is great enough to mastermind the universe, yet small enough to live within my heart. Father, You have made Your wonders to be remembered and appreciated. You are gracious and compassionate; Your presence is seen and felt everywhere. I acknowledge You as the Creator of the universe and the Light of my life, for You are my Lord and Master from eternity past to eternity future. Amen.

"God Of Wonders"  Listen on YouTube  Mac Powell

Saturday morning while Brooksyne was at her choir rehearsal Ester and I went out for breakfast near Strasburg at the Casey Jones Restaurant where we are seated in an actual railroad dining car. The Strasburg Railroad is in the background and it was Thomas the Tank weekend so the railroad was very busy.

Mourning dove
Last evening we were eating outside and Brooksyne noticed a mourning dove peering at us, seemingly uninhibited and very still. Ester had her camera and the bird allowed us a very close-up shot before flying off.

Mourning dove chicks
After the dove flew away we peered into the tree and saw the mother sitting on the nest and after she flew off this family of doves. Late in the season but the babies are still coming! The bird we first saw must have been the father guarding his family.
