Colossians 1:13,14

"It's Not Good To Be Wicked"

Message summary: Have you taken hold of the redeeming hand of Jesus who desires to rescue and transfer you? If not, it is our prayer that you do so today. "It's Not Good To be Wicked".

Listen to our message on your audio player.

"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:13,14).

"It's Good To be Wicked" signA large billboard along Route 30 caught our attention, which is what it is designed to do, and thus was successful. It advertised a beer brand with this phrase, "It's Good To be Wicked". It does seem to be life's outlook for many people in a literal sense.

That's why those of us who have been rescued and transferred into God's kingdom need to let our light shine to show that it's not good to be wicked but to be righteous through the work of Jesus Christ.

We all need rescued.
"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness". Thank God that He did not just send a "How To" pamphlet but rather He sent His only begotten Son, as a living Savior who gave Himself for our sins and rescued us from our penalty of sin which is separation from God for all eternity.

Jesus, the rescuerOur pastor preached from this passage years ago and illustrated, "If you come upon a person drowning you don't toss them a pamphlet titled 'How To Swim'. If you are drowning you need to be rescued!"

J.B. Lightfoot writes that "The Gospel is a rescue, an emancipation from a state of bondage to sin".

We all need transferred. He "transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son"

Bible teacher Brian Bell shares this outline of our transfer:

(1) Transferred from darkness to light
(2) Transferred from the enemy's kingdom to the kingdom of His Son.
(3) Transferred from incarceration to redemption.
(4) Transferred from condemnation to forgiveness.

Have you taken hold of the redeeming hand of Jesus who desires to rescue and transfer you? If not, it is our prayer that you do so today.

Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13

Praying man Daily prayer: Merciful Father, our dwelling place is not found in the kingdom of this world but in Your spiritual kingdom where our life-saving rescue took place as Jesus died on the cross on our behalf. You delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of Your beloved Son in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of our sins. There is no greater or more lasting rescue that changes the direction of our lives here on earth and also the direction of our eternal destiny in the life hereafter. We will thank and praise You for our life transforming rescue now and for all eternity. Amen.

Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources

"Glorious Day"  Watch on YouTube  We have enjoyed singing this in our church and we are sure many of you have sung it as well.

I needed rescue
My sin was heavy
But chains break at the weight of Your glory
I needed shelter
I was an orphan
But You call me a citizen of heaven
When I was broken
You were my healing
Your love is the air that I'm breathing
I have a future
My eyes are open!

You called my name
And I ran out of that grave
Out of the darkness
Into Your glorious day

Tree trunk in Lebanon County
Yesterday we drove past a pile of logs from a recently felled tree in Lebanon County and thought the shape of the trunk was interesting. Looks more like an oversized leaf than the trunk of a tree. I wonder if the owner of the tree might not make this into a table. What fun it would be to count the visible rings to find the age of this tree.

Gracie on back of chair
I walked out of our new bedroom that's attached to the office and saw Gracie laying on the back of Stephen's office chair. She likes this spot on the back of his chair when he is working at the computer. For some reason Gracie has decided Stephen's her favorite! Pet owners know what I mean since the pets decide who their favorite family member is no matter how much another family member may vie to be their favorite.

Don't Tailgate
Sights of Lancaster County.
This truck has a humorous caution about tailgating.

Ester with Joey
In Monday's message we mentioned our visit with Joey who, as a teenager, attended our church we served in New England in the nineties. Here's a photo of him with Ester, who still calls him "Bro" since there was an extended period that he and his mom were at our house (parsonage) quite often and he seemed like family.
