"Faithfulness
To The Clouds"
Message
summary: Today
we encourage
each reader in
the midst of
this world's
increasing
turmoil,
especially in
the land of
the Bible, to
reflect on
this glorious
truth
exclaimed by a
Jewish
shepherd some
3000 years ago
which has not
changed, "Your
steadfast
love, O Lord,
extends to the
heavens, Your
faithfulness
to the clouds".

"Your
steadfast
love, O Lord,
extends to the
heavens, Your
faithfulness
to the
clouds"
(Psalm 36:5).
Your
steadfast love
Extends to the heavens Your faithfulness Reaches to the clouds Your righteousness Is like majestic mountains And Your wisdom Like the depths of the sea And You come to me Last
week I was
visiting
several
employees in
an office area
and looked up
and saw what
appeared to be
a skylight
revealing the
fluffy, white
clouds above.
Well, I knew
that couldn't
be since there
was another
floor above.
Turns out it
was a piece of
acrylic that
fit under an
overhead light
which gave the
appearance of
a skylight. It
brought the
bright,
spacious
outside sky
into a
windowless
room (even if
it was only a
photo)!
The
employee,
Wanda, shared
how she really
enjoys seeing
the clouds and
shared with me
the photo she
had taken
which we use
as our lead
photo today. Having
a skylight
over her desk
brightens her
day.
Today's
text is found
three times in
the Psalms
(also in 57:10
and 108:4).
Clouds are an
example of the
universal and
timeless
illustrations
used in the
Bible.
Generations in
nearly all
geographical
locations have
seen clouds at
some time,
although some
more than
others.
However desert
regions like
the central
Sahara rarely
have a cloud.
Where we live
we can see
clouds of some
type about
every day,
even on a
clear day.
In
Psalm 36:1-4
David
considers
man's
wickedness and
then contrasts
it with God's
steadfast love
and
faithfulness
in verse 5.
There are no greater heights that man can imagine than the vast heavens above. In Psalm 19:1 David writes, "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork". The great canopy of the celestial heavens and the vast sweep of the clouds above is the greatest element that David can use when contrasting the unsurpassed righteousness of God with the wickedness of evil men.* David
exposes the
unbridgeable
gulf between
man's
wickedness,
which is
voiced in the
first few
verses of this
psalm, and
God's
unsurpassed
love and
faithfulness,
recorded in
this second
section which
begins, "Your
steadfast
love, O Lord,
extends to the
heavens, Your
faithfulness
to the clouds".
Not
only is God's
love steadfast
but His
faithfulness
is also
without end.
David
describes this
as extending
to the clouds.
God never
fails to
provide for
His human
creation. He
is faithful to
keep every
promise He
makes
(Proverbs
30:5).
Today
we encourage
each reader in
the midst of
this world's
increasing
turmoil,
especially in
the land of
the Bible, to
reflect on
this glorious
truth
exclaimed by a
Jewish
shepherd some
3000 years ago
which has not
changed, "Your
steadfast
love, O Lord,
extends to the
heavens, Your
faithfulness
to the clouds".
Be
encouraged
today,
(Hebrews
3:13)

Daily prayer:
O Lord, Your
love reaches
to the
heavens, and
Your
faithfulness
to the skies.
In contrast to
those who plot
evil on their
beds Your
righteousness
is like the
highest
mountains,
Your justice
like the great
deep. You,
Lord, preserve
both people
and animals.
How priceless
is Your
unfailing
love, O God!
People take
refuge in the
shadow of Your
wings. They
feast on the
abundance of
Your house;
You give them
drink from
Your river of
delights. For
with You is
the fountain
of life; in
Your light we
see light. May
others see
Your light
through us in
our deeds,
attitudes, and
words. In the
name of Jesus
we pray. Amen.

36 adapted)

This is Walk
#2 since she
already walked
Sadie and
Rosie in Walk
#1. She says
it's much
easier to walk
two dogs than
four and it
gets her more
steps. (I know
some of you
are thinking:
why don't I
walk the other
two?) Like
many couples
we prioritize
what chores we
are better at
or which we
prefer and
this is one
chore that I
don't prefer,
though I enjoy
taking Rosie
and Falcon,
our two
maltipoos, for
bike rides in
warmer
weather.
