"The
Blessing Of
Combobulation"
Message
summary:
Today we
consider the
blessing of
order, of
combobulation.
Living in an
orderly way
helps us to be
in line with
God.
Listen
to our message
on your audio
player.
"For God is
not a God of
disorder but
of peace" (1
Corinthians
14:33).
"But
all things
should be done
decently and
in order" (1
Corinthians
14:40).
Brooksyne
has been away
over a week
now visiting
family and
friends from
Tennessee to
Oklahoma and
both states in
between. Today
she and her
sister will be
visiting the
Pioneer Woman
near Pawhuska,
OK north of
Tulsa.
The
main reason
for her visit
at this time
is to attend
her 50th high
school class
reunion
tomorrow
night. Sunday
she will
travel back to
Nashville with
her sister and
come home
Monday
afternoon.
To
the right is
her official
senior class
photo taken in
1973 which, if
you're handy
with math, was
We remember
when just
being 50 years
old seemed
old!
While
she is away
my duty is to
"hold the
fort" which is
essentially
"keeping
things
combobulated".
It seems we
rarely hear
the word
combobulated
but most have
heard and
probably used
the word
discombobulated
which means
"characterized
by confusion
or disorder".
Thus
combobulated
means "to
compose (one's
self);
organize,
design, or
arrange, to
order or keep
in order". It
is a real word
and used
several times
in literature*
so I will add
one more
today.
Brooksyne
provides a
steady
combobulating
influence on
our household
so I've been
seeking to
maintain that.
So far so
good.
Let's
consider the
blessing of
combolulation
or having
things in
order in
several other
contexts.
1)
On a personal
level it's
"having our
finances in
order" or
"having our
house in
order" usually
in reference
to having
preparations
for our death.
The most
important
sense of
"having our
house in
order" is
being
spiritually
ready.
2)
In the family
there needs to
be order for
the proper
functioning.
We have
certainly seen
plenty of
evidence for
dysfunctional
families.
3)
The second
daily text, "But
all things
should be done
decently and
in order"
is in the
context of the
worship
service in the
local church
but "all
things" surely
extends beyond
that. What a
blessing to be
in a church
where there is
combobulation
(order) in all
aspects of
church life.
4)
In government
and society we
see a
hastening
breakdown in
order with
examples
abounding.
Bluntly I
wonder how
close our
society is to
reaching a
tipping point
in disorder
where it just
stops working.
In a future
message I want
to consider
the horrible
example our
government
provides to
the people and
how many
people
following this
example leads
to the
breakdown.
5)
God is a God
of order.
"For God is
not a God of
disorder but
of peace" (1
Corinthians
14:33).
The Greek word
for peace adds
the ideas of
oneness and
quietness. God
provides an
example of
order in both
Creation and
Providence.
Order
implies a neat
and logical
organization
of items,
tasks, or
people. When a
room is in
order, it has
been tidied
and everything
is in its
proper place.
God’s universe
is orderly. He
created
everything in
an orderly
sequence in a
six-day span
that set the
world as we
know it into
motion
(Genesis 1:31;
Exodus 20:11;
31:17). He
created the
sun, moon, and
stars to
regulate time
and seasons
(Genesis
1:14–18; Psalm
104:19), and
the heavenly
bodies operate
with precise
predictability.
Since
God is a God
of order, we
should have
order in our
life as well.
We were
created to
think in
orderly ways,
reason, judge,
and consider
all aspects of
a matter. God
invites us to
“come, let
us reason
together”
(Isaiah 1:18).
God enjoys our
communion with
Him, our
questions, our
studying of
His Word, and
our
willingness to
let Him bring
order to our
chaotic
thoughts. The
more like Him
we become, the
more orderly
our lives will
be because He
is a God of
order. (gotquestions.org,
see article
below)
So
today consider
the blessing
of order, of
combobulation.
Living in an
orderly way
helps us to be
in line with
God.
Be
encouraged
today,
(Hebrews
3:13)

Daily prayer:
Father,
thank You that
You
demonstrate
Your
orderliness in
Creation and
Providence.
You are not a
God of
disorder! Help
us to keep our
lives in order
as we submit
to You and
seek to bring
You glory. May
we always make
it our goal to
please You in
all we do. In
Jesus Name,
Amen

to the Old
Windmill Farm
on Wednesday.
(See
yesterday's
message
for background
and more

The
children loved
holding the
animals and
parents
snapped lots
of photos.
While we were
there the
nationwide
emergency
alert went off
and all over
the farm you
could hear it!
I
shared a
similar photo
yesterday of
these six
brothers
riding the
children's
barrel train.
This is a
sight you just
won't see
everyday!
These
poor calves
were surely
engorged with
water by the
end of the
day!
And
this cow was
milked all
day.
Lizzie,
the tour
guide,
explained that
the cracking
sound of the
bottle
startled the
cow but
this man
insisted on
collecting
some milk in a
water bottle.

On
Wednesday she

visited
relatives in
the
Springfield MO
area. They had
dinner at Lambert's
Cafe, home
of the throwed
roll. This is

husband. Her
hand is raised
in preparation
for a roll to
be tossed her
way.

Yesterday
I stopped the

produce

is done for
the season but
picked out
some beautiful
broccoli and
cauliflower
freshly picked
that morning
from the
fields.
