Hebrews 7:24,25

"Jesus Lives Forever!"

Message summary: The message that we especially celebrate on Easter is a daily, life-impacting truth. He always lives!

"Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them" (Hebrews 7:24,25).

One Sunday I was teaching a Bible class and sharing how Jesus used illustrations such as agriculture to really connect to His hearers since that is what they were familiar with.  I said, "If Jesus were alive today He might use present day illustrations that would be identified by His hearers in our society."

Afterwards Brooksyne reminded me that Jesus is very much alive! Of course I meant to convey, "If Jesus was still present in His earthly ministry". Yes, indeed, He is most certainly alive today!

On Easter Sunday we rightly focus on the day of Christ's resurrection and the historical events recorded in the Gospels. It is highly significant that Jesus was resurrected from the dead, but being raised from the dead is not a unique event. The stories are told of three in the Old Testament and seven in the New Testament who were raised from the dead. Perhaps the most noted raising from the dead was Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha, in the New Testament. Unnamed individuals were also raised from the dead as Jesus traveled from town to town healing the sick and raising the dead.

But all of these eventually died. But Jesus was raised from the dead and lives forevermore.  It is because of His resurrection that we too will rise again and live with Him forever!

The daily Scripture text has rightly brought hope and encouragement to so many through the ages of the Church. Consider the power and blessing of each individual phrase, reading them slowly and pondering their rich meanings.

"Because Jesus lives forever,
    He has a permanent priesthood.
        He is able,
            to save completely,
                those who come to God
                    through Him

                        Because He always lives
                            to intercede for them."

The message that we especially celebrate on Easter is a daily, life-impacting truth. Jesus rose from the dead and He always lives.

Today some of you are in a valley, overshadowed by a darkness that seems to "veil His lovely face". Due to the nature of our work as chaplains we always have people on our hearts going through tough times. In fact, during our prayer time just before we podcast, a text came through and Brooksyne checked it afterwards. It was a very troubling medical situation one is facing that we have been praying about as we attempt to be an encouragement and supportive prayer warrior for this needy family. Troubles can overshadow you and make you feel as though the Savior is far away. Remember this important Biblical truth today: He always lives and He is ever interceding for you.

In His wondrous and mysterious providence God ordains the valley for our ultimate good. It is in the valley that He restores our soul and gives us needed perspective. In 2 Corinthians 1:9 Paul writes that he suffered hardships even to the point of feeling the sentence of death. "But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead." God ultimately, in one way or another and not always in the ways we expect, delivers us from our troubles and raises our hopes above our difficult circumstances.

Others of you are on a mountain of temporary success and well being. Your health is good, the children are obeying, and the job seems steady. We certainly rejoice and give thanks for these peaceful periods in our lives. But remember, it's only temporary so don't be lulled into complacency and self-sufficiency like the man God called a fool. Jesus always lives and He's got a grand plan much larger and better coming.

Amen, Amen
I'm alive, I'm alive because He lives
Amen, Amen
Let my song join the One that never ends

Be encouraged today, (Hebrews 3:13)

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, no one who comes to You through Jesus goes away unable to find reconciliation with You, for You save completely and to the uttermost. Because Your Son lives forever and intercedes for us we have renewed hope daily for the circumstances of our lives and for the people that are dear to our hearts. Fill our hearts anew with hope, encouragement and endurance as we stand upon Your Word and fully trust You to guide our lives this day, in the good times and in the bad. Amen.

Deer in field
Early yesterday morning we saw four deer running toward us on Grandview Road north of Mount Joy. When we stopped to take the photo they also stopped and headed back the other direction!

Canoes on Lake Gretna
These canoes will be busy this summer when the Conewago Lake near Mount Gretna fills.

Pond near Mount Gretna
This pond is along the road near Mount Gretna. What especially caught our attention were the yellow daffodils edging the pond which adds bright color to the spring season.

Snow on Blue Mountain ridge
As we drove through Lebanon County yesterday we saw snow in the far distance on the Blue Mountain ridge. Later during our visit to Audrey's we talked to a man who had driven over the ridge and told us the snow was so thick it needed plowed. We don't usually see snow this late in the year.

Finally today:

Fenway Park 6/15/16
This morning Ester informed me that on April 20, 1912 (110 years ago today) Fenway Park opened in Boston. It is the oldest active park in major league baseball. This photo was taken at a game in 2016, definitely not 1912.  Here's an outstanding video made for opening day this year. "Welcome to Fenway Park - FPV Drone | 2022 Boston Red Sox Opening Day"
