"The
Greatest Ransom Ever Paid"
Listen
to this message on your audio player.
"For
there is one God and one Mediator between God and
men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom
for all, to be testified in due time" (1 Timothy
2:5,6). "And they sang a new song, saying, 'Worthy
are You to take the scroll and to open its seals,
for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed
people for God from every tribe and language and
people and nation, and You have made them a kingdom
and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the
earth'” (Revelation 5:9,10).
This
last Sunday in church we sang "How Deep The Father's
Love For Us" and this familiar verse really blessed
me:
Why
should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer; But this I know with all my heart – His wounds have paid my ransom. In
modern usage we normally associate the word "ransom"
with a kidnapping or abduction. The Oxford dictionary
defines it as "the sum of money or other payment
demanded or paid for the release of a prisoner".
But in
recent years we are hearing the word used in the term
"ransomware" which is "a type of malware from
cryptovirology that threatens to publish the victim's
personal data or perpetually block access to it unless
a ransom is paid". (Wikipedia) This last spring the
Colonial Pipeline C ompany had such an attack and many
were affected with a shortage in gasoline. They did
end up paying a ransom although I believe much of it
was recovered.
Martin
Luther wrote "For still our ancient foe doth
seek to work us woe" in the great hymn "A Mighty
Fortress Is Our God". That has been the devil's
strategy from the very beginning. In this message we
will call him the woe-maker!
Today we
want to consider the greatest ransom ever paid. The entire human race is held captive under
the curse of sin. We are (before conversion) "separate
from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and
foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without
hope and without God in the world" (Ephesians
2:12). Jesus summarized His ministry, "For even
the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many"
(Mark 10:45).
Jesus
paid this ransom with His own blood. As the song
states, "His wounds have paid my ransom". He gave
Himself as "a ransom for all". If you
are reading this you can be assured that you are
included. His blood "ransomed
people for God from every tribe and language and
people and nation".
When we
get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be! I
can only imagine the future celebration that will be
marked by unending gratitude, joy, harmony and love as
we join the ransomed of all the ages from every tribe,
language, people and nation. What will this "new song"
sound like? Will we all sing in a new heavenly
language or will we hear the scores of languages now
used all around the world? Only God knows but we can
be assured it will be wonderful there!
This is
all a result of the greatest ransom ever paid.
Be
encouraged today, (Hebrews 3:13)

Daily
prayer: Father,
thank You for sending Jesus who paid our ransom,
who made a way of escape so that we do not
receive eternal punishment that we deserve
but rather receive salvation that we do not
deserve. You are not a respecter of persons but
rather You provide salvation to every tribe,
tongue, and nation, for all who testify that
Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died for
their sins. We look forward to that great future
reunion in heaven where we will celebrate with
the saints of all the ages by singing "Worthy
is the Lamb to receive glory, honor, power and
strength forevermore!" Amen.

We want to thank all who financially
support our ministry. We
realize there are many fine ministries and
causes requesting support but if the Lord
would lead you we surely need and appreciate
the financial support from our readers and
listeners. Our
ministry labor is comprised of approximately
half our time to Daily Encouragement and the
other half to our chaplaincy ministry to
companies for which we receive compensation.
Each of these ministries essentially is the
same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for
each of us. Our goal for many years is that
each would provide half of our ministry
expenses and income.
