"The Good Land"

Message summary: Regardless of where we live and what conditions we live under we all live in "good land" in the spiritual realm!

"When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe His commands…" (Deuteronomy 8:10,11).

Our two dogs, Mollie and Sadie, have a pretty good life and we remind them of that now and then. They have a fenced-in yard around their home that also provides them with spacious bathroom facilities (with auto clean-up) and plenty of play room as well. They get two meals a day along with fresh water, and even have chair privileges (at least for photos). We have very few expectations except minimal barking, not digging holes to China, and leaving the birds alone. As canines, they don't realize it but they live in a "good land"!

They're fed twice a day and both look forward to their feeding times but get especially excited when Brooksyne doctors up their feed.  When hungry Mollie scoots her food dish around to get our attention as if to say, "It's that time again, in case you forgot!" Without really thinking I find myself quoting an adaptation of the Scripture to her, "If we have food and water, therewith shall we be content" (although the Scripture actually says, "food and clothing" but they always have warm coats of fur!).  Unfortunately, they don't seem to pay any attention to the wise counsel I offer them (free of charge).

On a much more serious note, we as God's creation, are to praise the Almighty God of the universe for His loving care and generous provisions. "Praise God from whom all blessings flow." Or as a portion of an old hymn states, "In all the world around me, I see His loving care."

But the spirit of unbelief and ingratitude has blinded many to this fact. This demonstration of God's care goes on moment by moment in a multitude of ways to all; the air we breathe, the livable climatic conditions, the food and water and the list goes on.

Then we consider the special demonstration of grace through Jesus for our eternal salvation. This is available exclusively for those who earnestly believe in Him and accept that gift. My, have we ever been blessed! Regardless of where we live and what conditions we live under we all live in a "good land" in the spiritual realm!

Yet so many have hearts that become proud and forgetful of the Lord our God leading them to ignore or disobey His commands (v.11). In our New Testament understanding they do not recognize God's goodness, and take personal credit when good things come their way, but blame God when the situation is not so good. Is not this a picture of many of those around us today?

What about you today? What about me? I want to thank God for His grace. I want to live my life in a manner that pleases the Lord. I want to praise the Lord my God for the "good land" and for His many, many blessings. Let's do so together!

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, when we have eaten and are satisfied, we praise You, our Lord God, for the good land You have given us. We want to be careful that we do not forget You or fail to observe Your commands; otherwise we might say, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me", but if I remember it is You who gives me the ability to produce wealth, it confirms Your covenant, which You swore to our ancestors, and applies to my life today. To God be the glory! Amen.

Special Year-end Financial Appeal

We want to thank all who have financially supported our ministry this past year (and some for many years!). We realize there are many fine ministries and causes requesting support at this time but if the Lord would lead you we surely need and appreciate the financial support from our readers and listeners. Like many ministries, we typically see a spike in giving at the end of the year for which we are most thankful.

Our ministry labor is comprised of approximately half our time to Daily Encouragement and the other half to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for which we receive compensation. Each of these ministries essentially is the same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of us. Our goal for many years is that each would provide half of our ministry expenses and income.

If you would consider making a donation to our ministry see here for more information.

Mollie chasing frisbee
Mollie's best photos are outdoors showing off her athleticism. We had our first very light snow yesterday but this photo was taken several years ago. Although Mollie is approaching ten years old she still has quite the energy and still enjoys playing.
