A
daily, Bible-based perspective of hope, encouragement and
exhortation.

Yesterday
morning we bought flowers on a farm near New Holland, PA.
We liked the way they planted all these flowers under the
windmill. The red pots in the background beyond the white
fence are mums growing for the fall. (See photo below for another
view.)
"The
Preeminence Of Christ"
Message
summary: We can experience
great comfort in this eternal truth: Christ is
preeminent!
Listen to this message on your audio player. "For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence" (Colossians 1:16-18). Ron and Bonnie Hoover are friends of ours who serve as spiritual mentors to the business community here in Lancaster through a group known as Convene. We first met Ron in 2007 through his leadership at our local Convene group. He has been very encouraging and supportive to us in our chaplain ministry through his many contacts. Bill and Bonnie both have a dynamic faith in Christ, with a knack for finding ways to witness in the midst of life’s circumstances. Ron is an engineer and in fact has a doctorate in electrical engineering. Years ago he was leading a meeting discussing a quality control issue with other engineers. There was some frustration in the room (not uncommon in the business world) and one of the exasperated engineers said, "Jesus Christ couldn’t keep this tolerance". Ron said, "Oh, I didn’t know that Jesus Christ worked down at our lab". Of course this quieted things down a bit. Now when Ron speaks it's sort of like E.F. Hutton for those who may recall those ads from the 70's "When E.F Hutton speaks, people listen". (E.F Hutton was a financial firm and the ad tried to convey how valuable the firm’s advice was.) Then Ron solemnly said, "As a matter of fact Jesus Christ could keep this tolerance" and went on to testify of his faith in Christ to the group! The daily Scripture portion asserting the supremacy of Christ in all things is like a rich meal with much to feed upon. Note the five times in these three verses we read the words "all things". But today let us focus on the final one, "that in all things He might have the preeminence". Preeminent is defined as "having paramount rank, dignity, or importance". (Webster) Preeminent, although used in several prominent translations such as the KJV and ESV, is not a commonly used word and thus other translations (see here) render the passage a bit differently but with the same sense.
The preeminence of
Christ is a great source of assurance in
troubling times. There are many
things in our lives that may bring on anxiety
and distress. It may be a personal health issue
or a family matter. It may be our finances or
the condition of the world with all the turmoil
and uncertainty.
At the present we don’t know how these and many other issues will all work out. But we can experience great comfort in this eternal truth: Christ is preeminent! "Teach us to know
You, always among us,
quietly sovereign – Lord of our now." Be encouraged
today,
Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily prayer: Father, anything good or praiseworthy in me is simply a reflection of the abiding presence of Your Holy Spirit. I want to grow in Your grace and knowledge, and will do so if You are preeminent in my life. That means You will reign supreme and be of first importance to me, having greater influence than any other person or cause. I want to walk in humility today as I pray, “Jesus must become greater in my life, I must become less.” I ask You to be at the center of my thoughts, my attitudes, and my actions so that Your preeminence is seen in all I think, do, and say. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen. Today's

We want to thank all who
financially support our ministry. We
realize there are many fine ministries and
causes requesting support but if the Lord
would lead you we surely need and appreciate
the financial support from our readers and
listeners. Our ministry
labor is comprised of approximately half our
time to Daily Encouragement and the other half
to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for
which we receive compensation. Each of these
ministries essentially is the same as a
part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of
us. Our goal for many years is that each would
provide half of our ministry expenses and
income.
If you would consider making a donation to our ministry see here for more information. To donate directly online here. This will open to a page that designates the offering to: WEBER,STEPHEN CHAP, Specialized Chaplaincy Ministry ID: 700001-237376

We also provide this easy option due to
the convenience, for international
