"Divine
Cardioversion"
Message
summary: Our land
desperately needs a revival like the Great
Awakening at the time of Jonathan Edwards. In
fact I assert that it is our only hope for
national restoration. The appeal of the Psalmist
is so needed, "Will You not revive us again,
that Your people may rejoice in You?"
![]() "Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation" (Psalm 85:6,7). "It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn Your decrees" (Psalm 119:71). ![]() But notice the brand of the AED, "Reviver". I wonder how many consider the Biblical origins of that word! Cardioversion is a medical procedure that restores a normal heart rhythm in people with certain types of abnormal heartbeats (arrhythmias). Cardioversion is usually done by sending electric shocks to your heart through electrodes placed on your chest. Ester has been cardioverted more times than Brooksyne and I have keep track of, due to episodes of Atrial Flutter that does not resolve through medication. We still recall her first cardioversion experience at Boston Children's Hospital with a large group of Harvard medical students gathered around her. After moving to Pennsylvania Ester had an episode treated at Hershey Medical Center. Jim Gambini, our pastor at that time, talked to Ester (who was about 13 at the time) after the procedure and shared an illustration of her experience as a sermon illustration. “When I talked
with Ester after she got home from the
hospital two days after her ordeal, I asked
her, ‘Were you thankful for those paddles?’ At
first she said ‘No.’ But when I asked her what
might have happened if they hadn’t used the
paddles, she said, ‘Well, I guess I am
thankful for the paddles.’ You see, the
pain she felt as her heart sped up warned her
and motivated her as well as her parents and
her doctors to do what needed to be done to
fix the problem, namely shocking her heart
back into proper rhythm.” That also caused
pain but it was a "good pain".
Revival can also have pain. The word revive means "restore to life or consciousness". In the case of a heart attack, of course, the AED is used to shock the heart back to life. But the word "revive" is initially a spiritual word found in the Bible having essentially the same meaning. As I looked at the AED I thought, wouldn't it be great if there was an ASD (automatic spiritual defibrillator). Our land desperately needs a revival like the Great Awakening at the time of Jonathan Edwards. We especially believe this during these last several weeks with the increasing turmoil on so many levels. In fact we assert that it is our only hope for national restoration. The appeal of the Psalmist is so needed, "Will You not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?" Today, join Brooksyne and me among others with a steadfast heart who declare, "Will You not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in You?" In our day, in our time, may the Lord revive each of us as faithful followers of Christ. May the Lord send a revival leading many lost souls to faith in Christ, repentance of sins, and becoming faithful followers of Christ. Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber ![]() Note for medical people: Apparently cardioversion and defibrillation are similar but not completely synonymous. See here. Today's

We want to thank all who
financially support our ministry. We
realize there are many fine ministries and
causes requesting support but if the Lord
would lead you we surely need and appreciate
the financial support from our readers and
listeners. Our ministry
labor is comprised of approximately half our
time to Daily Encouragement and the other half
to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for
which we receive compensation. Each of these
ministries essentially is the same as a
part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of
us. Our goal for many years is that each would
provide half of our ministry expenses and
income.
If you would consider making a donation to our ministry see here for more information. To donate directly online here. This will open to a page that designates the offering to: WEBER,STEPHEN CHAP, Specialized Chaplaincy Ministry ID: 700001-237376 ![]() Permissions:
