the leaf strewn woods.
"The
Peril Of Broken Trust"
Message summary: None of us knows when we will experience a broken trust, but if we rest on God’s promises, we’re reminded that He is faithful in helping us to overcome every heartache that comes our way. He is ever-trustworthy so let us keep our focus on the eternal covenant that will never be broken. And let us also commit to being trustworthy. Listen to this message on your audio player. "God keeps every
promise He makes. He is like a shield for all
who seek His protection" (Proverbs 30:5). "But I
will never stop loving Him, nor let my promise
to Him fail. No, I will not break my covenant. I
have sworn an oath to David, and in My holiness
I cannot lie: his dynasty will go on forever;
his throne is as secure as the sun" (Psalm
89:33,34a,35,36). "He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds" (Psalm 147:3).
Saturday night we
received a message from Bob, a long time friend,
who reflects upon his recent wedding anniversary:
"My
wife and I have just been married fifty-nine
years. I trust her to be faithful to me, and she
trusts me to be faithful to her. We always have
been, and we always will be! Broken trust is like
a splinter that has broken off in your hand. It is
hard to restore. Just when you think you have
overcome the breach, there is a little stab of
remembrance that sends doubt into your heart."
Most all of us at
some point in life have dealt with the pain and
humiliation, messy fallout and often long-term
consequences of a broken trust. For some it's been
from life's closest human relationship, marriage.
We consider a friend whose wife was unfaithful and
eventually left him for another man. He's now
seeking to rebuild his life and that of his young
children.
For others the broken
trust has been a friendship, work matter or a
church relationship. If you have been so blessed
to have never experienced a broken trust from a
close relationship in life just expand your circle
to include businesses, politicians and so forth.
Our world is filled
with broken people which is so often a direct
result of a broken trust, whether it goes back to
our childhood or from an adult relationship(s).
Lives come unraveled, hearts are broken, and hope
is shattered.
But God offers
healing for broken lives since "He heals the
broken-hearted and binds up their wounds" as
the broken put their trust in Him.
In contrast to the
broken trusts we experience in this world we serve
a God who never breaks His trust. He is ever
trustworthy, dependable and keeps every covenant
or promise He makes, for "God keeps every
promise He makes".
In Psalm 89 He made a
promise to David that his kingdom would never end.
And of course when the Son of God, born of the
tribe of David, became the incarnate Christ, "The
angel told Mary, And the Lord God will give Him
the throne of His ancestor David. And He will
reign over Israel forever; His kingdom will
never end!" (Luke 1:32,33).
None of us knows
when we will experience a broken trust, but if we
rest on God’s promises, we’re reminded that He is
faithful in helping us to overcome every
heartache that comes our way. He is
ever-trustworthy so let us keep our focus on the
eternal covenant that will never be broken. And
let us also commit to being trustworthy.
Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily prayer: Father, in a world filled with broken trusts resulting in broken lives, how comforted we are to know that You keep every promise You make. You heal the broken hearted and bind up their wounds. You call us to Yourself, poor and needy, bruised and broken by the fall, and You stand ready to save us. We must doubt no more but fully trust You on the merit of the sinless blood which was shed for us through the death of Your Son, Jesus. We confess our brokenness and celebrate Your wholeness as we serve You in Your kingdom that is eternal. Amen.
