Jesus Paid Your Debt church sign 5/21/19
Church sign in Lebanon County, PA

"Jesus Paid Our Debt"

Message summary:  Our biggest problem in life, our debt of sin, has been taken care of!

Listen to our message on your audio player.

"Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness" (Genesis 15:6). "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God" (Romans 5:1,2).

Witness sign, Lancaster County, PAIt's a joy to see inspiring messages as we travel the rural roads in our region. Many churches use signs with an inspirational message and many farms also have these small signs with a Scripture verse. Among the most creative are messages on silos. (See photo below)

Yesterday I passed a church sign in Lebanon County that had this simple message, "No Credit, No Problem, Jesus Paid Your Debt". That reminder really blessed me. I turned around to take the photo shown above but due to traffic I was a bit too far away to see the message clearly.

The sign brought to mind a chorus we sang many years ago:

He paid a debt He did not owe
I owed a debt I could not pay
I needed someone to wash my sins away
And now I sing a brand new song
Amazing Grace
Christ Jesus paid the debt that I could never pay

Bible teacher R.C. Sproul, who is now with the Lord, contends the first daily text is the single most important verse in the Old Testament. Certainly the New Testament writers saw the significance of this verse, for it is cited three times.

Paul used this verse in his great defense of the Biblical doctrine of justification by faith in Romans 4:3 and Galatians 3:6. Surely, we can all rejoice in this fundamental declaration by God. James also uses this verse but adds the phrase concerning Abraham "he was called God's friend" (James 2:23).

"Abram believed God". It's interesting that in each case the phrase is "Abram believed God", not "believed in God". Many today believe in God, but we are called to believe God. To believe His character, His trustworthiness, His truth, His declaration of our righteousness in Christ. For my fellow pilgrims going through a transition or enduring a trial, let us trust God in His immutable character of steadfast love and faithfulness!

He (God) credited it to him as righteousness". This is the foundation of the Biblical doctrine of justification by faith. Consider this magnificent positional statement, "When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross" (Colossians 2:13,14).

Our biggest problem in life, our debt of sin, has been taken care of!

Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.

Be encouraged today,

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, there is nothing that brings greater satisfaction then the deep, settled peace in my soul that results from receiving Your forgiveness. Jesus paid the debt for my sin. He paid it in full and I fully commit my life to Him. There isn't one merit badge I can earn or apply to my standing in Christ, for it is only through His grace that I overcome the power of sin. Thank You for sending Jesus and receiving His death as an atoning sacrifice for my sins. I stand uncondemned and fully forgiven through Your grace and I am so thankful. Amen.

Early yesterday morning we passed these donkeys in pasture in Lebanon County.

This silo is in Lebanon County. Interesting verse to choose.

Church sign in Lancaster County, PA
We are blessed as we pass church signs with a thought-provoking message!

Martin's Bike shop sign
This business on Route 322 east of Ephrata, PA (where we bought our bikes) is not ashamed of the Gospel!

Witness sign: "Calvary Covers It All"

We passed this interesting sign in New Holland Pennsylvania. I find this sign interesting due to how it may be misinterpreted. Many of us raised in the Christian faith know what Calvary is (where Christ died) and that the phrase "Calvary Covers It All" is the title to a grand old hymn. But I wonder, especially in light of the business, if there are those who might think Calvary is the brand name for a new cleaning product!
