"The
fruit of the righteous is a tree of
life, and he who wins souls is wise"
(Proverbs 11:30). "For though I am
free from all men, I have made myself
a slave to all, so that I may win
more. To the Jews I became as a Jew,
so that I might win Jews; to those who
are under the Law, as under the Law
though not being myself under the Law,
so that I might win those who are
under the Law; to those who are
without law, as without law, though
not being without the law of God but
under the law of Christ, so that I
might win those who are without law"
(1 Corinthians 9:19-21).
White
Oak Design and Display is a company we
serve as chaplains that is a "business
to business" company. They design and
manufacture displays for other
businesses that many of you have seen
but probably would have given little
thought to. In fact that is purposeful
since the desired focus is on the
product being sold and not the display.
If the display is successful you will
notice and hopefully buy the product.
They design and build displays for many
nationally known companies. Their
displays can be seen in places like
Lowes, Home Depot, Bass Pro Shop,
Cabela's, Walmart
and many other
retailers.
White Oak Design and Display
has an interesting marketing
phrase expressing their goal, "Winning
Customers For Life". I saw it on
some of their shirts during a
walk-through. The intent of the phrase
of course is that their product and
service is so good that they keep a
customer for life. But when seeing the
phrase on the sleeve of a shirt the
other day it struck me that this phrase
is also a spiritual theme based upon a
Bible text from our first daily text,
"He who wins souls is wise".
Soul-winning
is a phrase we don't hear as often these
days, not like years back when I was a
young Christian. It is an expression
used when we give a witness of our faith
and lead someone to faith in Christ. The
timeless truth of Proverbs 11:30 remains
"He who wins
souls is wise". Other versions
render it "whoever captures souls is
wise" (ESV), "the one who is
wise saves lives" (NIV), "he
who is wise captures and wins souls
[for God—he gathers them for
eternity]". (Amplified)
The
apostle Paul uses a similar "win" theme
in our second passage from 1
Corinthians. His goal was to win more,
whether those under the law (Jews) or
those without law (Gentiles). Our goal
is not customers but souls and the
amazing thing about exerting spiritual
influence is that we impact not only for
this life but for all eternity. That's
why our witness, both in words and
action, is vitally important. We all
have an opportunity to make a difference
not only in this life but also in the
life to come. Elsewhere Paul wrote, "but
godliness is profitable for all
things, since it holds promise for the
present life and also for the life to
come" (1 Timothy 4:8).
Let
us be wise today and seek to win souls.
Be
encouraged today,
Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily
prayer: Father, You have called us to
be soul-winners for the kingdom of God.
There are many ways we influence
unbelievers to come to Christ such as
telling them the Good News that You gave
Your only Son to die for their sins. We
also influence them by the fruit of the
Spirit that is evident in our lives and
in our works. We point others to the
Overcoming Christ as we overcome the
trials we're dealt in this life. We
influence family, friends and co-workers
when our human nature rears its ugly
head and we seek repentance from You and
anyone else who might be hurt by our
actions. We show the way to Christ when
we live above reproach, when we deny
ourselves, take up our cross and follow
after You. We will not judge each day by
the harvest of souls we reap for Your
kingdom but by the seeds that we plant,
knowing that others come along and
water, fertilize and may even be a part
of the future harvest. All we do is for
Your glory. Amen.
These
birds are enjoying our fountain as they
dip in for a vigorous and cold bath.
