2016 Philadelphia Flower Show
2016 Philadelphia Flower Show

"Light And Darkness"

Message Summary:
The apostle Paul's word to the Galatians is so powerful in this regard, "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:7-9). Today let us seek to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord and make it our goal to please Him in all we do. Let us live in the light and not the darkness!

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23). "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:7-9).

Duke is a reader from Delaware and strong contender for the faith who periodically writes us. Yesterday he emailed several photos. One provides a major contrast between good and evil right on a main road through Dover Delaware. A crisis pregnancy center has a building right next to a Planned Parenthood Clinic. One is known for the murder of babies, the other for efforts to save them. The scene reminds me of a famous missions quote by C.T. Studd, "Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell; I wish to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell."

Dover DE

I looked at the
google street view and the Pregnancy Help Center is literally just several yards (as best as I can determine) from the Planned Parenthood abortuary directly next door.

Duke wrote,
"My wife and I visited this Pro Life Clinic and donated some children's clothing, Bible tracts, etc. and looked to encourage and thank the ladies working there. I feel this Pro Life Pregnancy Help Center is on the literal front gates of Hell. In this case, Light and darkness side by side. Literally next door over is where they murder babies. The precious women in this Pro Life Center have more than a few victorious stories of them snatching a few babies from the jaws of death."

Duke also sent me two Kember prints he had found. Walter Kember was a Canadian who calligraphed Scripture verses and placed them in simple pine frames. They were freely distributed and we have seen them all through the areas where we have ministered. In fact I recall visiting a car dealership in Greencastle PA many years ago that had these prints in each office.

Years ago I received an email from Walter Kember's grandson with this very interesting note: "He made over 4 million of those Bible verse texts, they are still available today. I am working on writing a paper on his ministry. The amount of glass panes he used for the texts is 3.9 million square feet! This is equivalent to the area of 80 football fields! The amount of framing wood he used stretches over 3,000 miles!"

I had never seen the two Scriptures Duke sent me on a Kember print and one seems especially appropriate for today's message, although for the purposes of our study today, I will use another version and expand on the context.
Galatians 6:7 Kember print

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out." Whether as individuals, a group, or even a country, we may very well think we are getting away with our sinful choices but we can be sure our sin will find us out, sometimes sooner, other times later. Since the consequences of sin are not always immediate we may be under the illusion that all is well. But eventually our sin will find us out and the fall-out is inevitable.

Be encouraged today,

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, we make it our goal to find out what pleases You and, thereby, seek to do what is right in Your eyes. And yet we readily confess that far more times than we like to admit we have lived in vain conceit and sought after worldly pleasure. Since we know that You walk in the light we choose to walk in Your light shunning the darkness that accompanies our archenemy, the devil. We choose not to grow weary in well doing since we know that in due time we will reap a spiritual harvest if we do not give up. Help us to keep on keeping on in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

More 2016 Philadelphia Flower Show Photos
For several days this week we will share photos from our visit to the Philadelphia Flower Show last Friday. The show is indoors in a convention center that spans 3 city blocks.

The sheer amount of flowers can overwhelm.

This looks unfinished but it represented something.

2016 Philadelphia Flower Show
A real garden. We wonder how much preparation time for this show and how they need to replenish it all through the 8 day show period, especially flowers. As I recall the small log cabin represented Lincoln's home.

Support Our MinistryWe want to thank all who financially support our ministry. We realize there are many fine ministries and causes requesting support but if the Lord would lead you we surely need and appreciate the financial support from our readers and listeners. Our ministry labor is comprised of half our time to Daily Encouragement and the other half to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for which we receive a fee (of course this percentage of time varies week by week). Each of these ministries essentially is the same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of us. Our goal for many years is that each phase would provide half of our ministry expenses and income. If you would like to make a donation to our ministry see here for more information. Donations through my chaplaincy endorsing ministry are tax deductible and will be receipted directly by them.  Thank you!
