<Previous Message Next Message> Friday, October 12, 2012 Lee, a friend of ours, sent us this photo of an Amish work buggy. Listen to this message on your audio player. "Reigning Forever" "You, O LORD, reign forever; Your throne endures from generation to generation" (Lamentations 5:19). Back in the nineties we took a trip through the northwest United States. Among our visits was Mount St. Helens in Washington state which famously erupted in 1980. We took a very long road that went to an observatory. It was a highlight of our trip, although I should have filled the car up before I took the one-way road back to the viewing area. I recall being so stressed that I was going to run out of gas that it diminished my enjoyment and remains one of the first memories that Brooksyne and I associate with our visit to Mount St. Helens. Mount St. Helens remains an active volcano. Scientists carefully monitor the situation by observing seismic and geological activity in an attempt to predict whether the mountain will blow again. I believe a parallel is the conditions in society. As we regress into spiritual, moral and cultural decadence I just wonder when things are finally going to erupt. How much can a people tamper with God's order before His judgment is rendered? My discernment tells me there are several critical situations taking place that indicates an eruption is close. This can be so distressing, but how blessed we are to have a firm, secure foundation in God and His Word. Things were blowing up (although not literally) at the time Jeremiah wrote Lamentations. But buried deep in this rather obscure book is this wonderful truth: "You, O LORD, reign forever; Your throne endures from generation to generation" (5:19). Today may we keep our focus on the firm foundational truths of God's eternal Kingdom! Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily prayer: Father, You reign forever and ever and Your Kingdom knows no end. Thank You for Your plan of salvation that includes us in Your kingdom and for the eternality of our souls. Since everything has an expiration date in this life eternity is hard to grasp, yet fills us with anticipation for the everlasting life yet to come. Keep us hope-filled and faithful as we journey here below. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Yesterday we stopped by to visit our Amish friends for a few minutes in the course of our chaplain work. We can always count on seeing lots of kittens and some interesting antics. I wonder if this kitty asked permission to ride Moses' skateboard. This one appears to be delivering a wagonload of eggs. And at our place: Brooksyne snapped this photo yesterday afternoon. A couple months ago we noticed a plant growing next to the road that looked like a pumpkin or squash plant. Our neighbor mowed around it, our farmer friend sprayed around it and we've watched it grow. Turns out it's a neck pumpkin plant, a gift from the birds who planted it or seeds that we threw out last year from our pumpkins. Voluntary neck pumpkins!!! That'll make a few pies or pumpkin soup. Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources "Jesus Shall Reign" Video First Baptist Church of Key Largo, FL I am so blessed by this Isaac Watts hymn! From a hymn site: Christ deserves praise from every creature and every aspect of creation. This popular Isaac Watts text paints beautiful pictures of the effect Christ’s reign has on all He has made and their response to Him. As a church, we need to speak of the greatness of Christ in ways that spark our imagination. To sing about the “early blessings” that infants cry out to Him gives us a shifted perspective on the cry of a newborn. Watts obviously looked for ways that God is praised in the every day life he saw around him, and as worshippers of the living and omnipresent God, we are encouraged by this hymn to see and hear His praise happening all around us.
