Amish dad with children, Lancaster County, PA 6/3/16
This morning we came up behind our neighbor, Chris, pulling his children in a wagon along Kraybill Church Road. We've had beautiful weather but are now back to rain and cloud covering, as evidenced in the photo.

"The Infinitude of God"

Message Summary:
So, as His children redeemed by faith in Christ, let us find great assurance and deep-settled peace in the theological truth that God is all-knowing. Since we know only in part, seeing only through a glass darkly, let us not attempt to lead, but follow the leading of our omniscient God!

"Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite" (Psalm 147:5). "He knows everything" (1 John 3:20b).

Father of all, omniscient Mind,
Thy wisdom who can comprehend?
Its highest point what eye can find,
Or to its lowest depths descend?

Buzz LightyearBuzz Lightyear is a fictional character well-known and often imitated from the Toy Story movie. He is famously known for his phrase, "To infinity... and beyond!" If you've ever seen the movie you can probably hear him saying that! (video clip). For some this just may be their most familiar use of the word infinity. This morning I was visiting with several workers and inquired as to what they thought would be the most popular usage of infinity. Without hesitation they recalled Buzz Lightyear!

Infinity is a concept in mathematics and philosophy that refers to a quantity without bound or end. By its very definition it's a concept hard to grasp. Infinitude is a noun which means "the state or quality of being infinite or having no limit".

Googol
Google is a popular search engine, familiar by most. Likely you have used it many times. It's named after a rather obscure number called a googol. Now it's been a few years since I studied math which was never one of my stronger subjects, so I have a hard time even expressing this figure, which is 10 to the power of one hundred or 1 with a hundred 0's after it. I read that this is more than all the hydrogen atoms in the universe, but the article didn't specify who counted them. I suppose that's about as close to infinity as one can get on this side! However, infinity is way beyond this by its very definition.

Infinity is also a word that describes God's knowledge, an attribute known to theologians as
omniscience. The first daily Scripture states, "His understanding is infinite." The second daily Scripture portion succinctly describes this attribute in three words, "He knows everything." Omniscience is the capacity to know everything infinitely, to be "all-knowing". Now that's really hard to grasp, I suppose actually impossible with our finite minds!

Luke 12:7
Elsewhere the Scriptures teach this truth using illustrations such as the number of hairs on our head being numbered (every hair on every head, present tense). In Scripture the purpose of expressing this knowledge is to give the believer an assurance of God's care. In the case of our hairs being counted it's in the context of "Why do you worry?" In the case of the daily text it's in regard to the assurance of our hearts understanding God's forgiveness.

Today we can receive tremendous encouragement from the truth that God knows everything. He is active both macroscopically and microscopically. He is involved not only in the big picture, but in the minute details of our lives (such as knowing the number of hairs on our head).

So, as His children redeemed by faith in Christ, let us find great assurance and deep-settled peace in the theological truth that God is infinite and all-knowing. Since we know only in part; seeing through a glass darkly, let us not attempt to lead, but follow the leading of our omniscient God!

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Praying manDaily prayer: Father, Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path giving direction when I would otherwise be led astray. Help me to daily remember that You do the leading and I do the following, since You know all things including the past, present and future. In Your infinite knowledge and wisdom You watch over me, care for my needs, and remind me of the very important command, "Do not be dismayed for I am your God." Sometimes we become discouraged and confused about matters that make no sense to us which leads us to doubt and second guess Your overall plan. But in Your omniscience You remind us that You are our God, You know all things, You will strengthen and uphold us by Your righteous right hand. Infinite God, we are thankful to You! Amen.

Our neighbor Lester and his family were planting tomatoes yesterday. Brooksyne took this photo through our windshield from her passenger seat as we drove alongside their field on Colebrook Road. Click on photo to enlarge though it will be a bit grainy.

Support Our MinistryWe want to thank all who financially support our ministry. We realize there are many fine ministries and causes requesting support but if the Lord would lead you we surely need and appreciate the financial support from our readers and listeners. Our ministry labor is comprised of half our time to Daily Encouragement and the other half to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for which we receive a fee (of course this percentage of time varies week by week). Each of these ministries essentially is the same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of us. Our goal for many years is that each phase would provide half of our ministry expenses and income. If you would like to make a donation to our ministry see here for more information. Donations through my chaplaincy endorsing ministry are tax deductible and will be receipted directly by them.  Thank you!
