National Day Of Prayer 2016

"Wake Up America"

Message Summary:
In expressing the "righteousness that exalts a nation" it's vital that the teachings and standards of the Scriptures impact every area of our life, including our work! Truly we need righteousness at work as we cry out to God to wake up America.

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (Proverbs 14:34).

Here in the United States today is the National Day of Prayer. All over the country there are special
prayer events. Here in Lancaster County there are many local events and then this evening a large county-wide rally at the Lancaster Convention Center in downtown Lancaster.

This year the theme is "Wake Up America" based on Isaiah 58:1, "Shout it aloud, do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet." The national organizers are aware of how desperate conditions have gotten here in America and unless God sends a sweeping revival soon we will surely see a hastening in our nation's decline. We certainly can't expect political leadership to get us out of this, although that seems to be where so many are placing their hope.

Yesterday morning I went to a breakfast sponsored by the Pennsylvania Family Institute, an organization
defending traditional moral values here in Pennsylvania. We were reminded of the onslought of the forces of evil. Surely we can see if we have even minimal spiritual discernment that "sin is a disgrace to any people".

This morning we have a special community prayer event here in Mount Joy and I have been asked to lead in a segment of prayer dealing with the business and work communities. This is so often an area where believers fail to appropriately express and live out their faith. This is true regardless of whether one is a business owner/leader or an employee. Here is a succinct prayer outline I will use to assist participants in focusing their prayer in this regard.

Pray for:
Business Leaders
* Wisdom in making right decisions.
* Strength & courage to act in integrity, often against the tide.
* Reflecting Christ in the manner in which the business is operated.
* Justness in treatment to employees.

All Employees
* Commitment to a Biblically-based work ethic.
* Expressing their Christian faith in maintaining a good testimony both in word and deed.
* Opportunities for specific presentations of the Gospel.
* A commitment to proper priorities in regard to God, family and work.

In expressing the "righteousness that exalts a nation" it's vital that the teachings and standards of the Scriptures impact every area of our life, including our work! Truly we need righteousness at work as we cry out to God to wake up America.

Praying man Today we will post the powerful prayer written by Tony Evans especially for this year's national day of prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, we come to You today as a humble people desperate for Your supernatural intervention on behalf of our beloved nation.  First, we thank You for all the blessings You have bestowed on our land, blessings that have allowed us to bring so much good and benefit to not only our own citizens but also to the rest of the world. The very ideals upon which this country was founded were based on biblical truths, no matter how some try to rewrite history to deny that very fact today.

This is why our hearts are so broken over how You continue to be marginalized and dismissed by both our people and our institutions. We are also saddened by the fact that Your people have contributed greatly to the spiritual apathy that now engulfs us. Our satisfaction in remaining religious without being fully committed to living out the truths of Your Word has caused us to become co-conspirators with the forces of evil that are destroying us as a society.

It is for this reason that we personally and collectively repent of our carnality and recommit ourselves to becoming visible and verbal disciples of Jesus Christ. Enable us, by Your Spirit, to no longer be secret agent Christians but rather to publicly declare and live out Your truth in a spirit of love so that You feel welcome in our country once again.

Thank You for Your promise to hear our prayers when we call to You with hearts of repentance and obedience, which is how we are appealing to You today, Father. On behalf of Your church, we affirm afresh the priority You are to us that You would fill every dimension of our lives as we seek to bring You glory through the advancement of Your kingdom in our personal lives, our family lives, and in the lives of our churches and our government leaders. We confidently invite heaven’s intervention into all the affairs of our nation and we praise You in advance for Your answer.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Smucker Laser crew 5/4/16
Yesterday afternoon we attended an open house at Smucker Laser, a company that makes parts using huge laser cutting machines such as the one in the background. We managed to get this rare photo of both the 1st and 2nd shifts. (Click on photo to enlarge) Smucker Laser is one of the companies we serve as chaplains. Here's a video of one of the machines in action.

Baby robins 5/4/16
Late last night I took another photo of our robin nest under the eave of our barn. Due to an early morning prayer meeting and long day away from home I will be unable to take a photo Thursday morning. The first egg hatched Monday morning and yesterday morning two were hatched. And three as of Tuesday night. As you can see from this photo all the eggs are now hatched. They'll soon be getting hungry and Mom will be very busy filling their little beaks with worms and whatever else birds eat.

Support Our MinistryWe want to thank all who financially support our ministry. We realize there are many fine ministries and causes requesting support but if the Lord would lead you we surely need and appreciate the financial support from our readers and listeners. Our ministry labor is comprised of half our time to Daily Encouragement and the other half to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for which we receive a fee (of course this percentage of time varies week by week). Each of these ministries essentially is the same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of us. Our goal for many years is that each phase would provide half of our ministry expenses and income. If you would like to make a donation to our ministry see here for more information. Donations through my chaplaincy endorsing ministry are tax deductible and will be receipted directly by them.  Thank you!
