![]() Sunday morning we passed one of our all-time favorite Lancaster County scenes with a very long lane leading back to this picture-perfect farm. "Jason" Message summary: Are you a "Jason"? ![]() "But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials, shouting: 'These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus'" (Acts 17:6,7). Jason is a popular name for males. As we reflect on the people we associate with Jason is one of the more common names we're familiar with. It is a Bible name but, unlike most other Bible names which are based on a well-known Bible character such as David, John, Peter, James, etc., very little is known about Jason in the Bible. So today let us do a character study! There are at most two Jasons mentioned in Scripture; one in Acts 17 when the church in Thessalonica was forming and the other mentioned with no detail whatsoever in Romans 16:21. Could they be the same person? The record of the founding of the Thessalonian church in Acts 17 only takes the first nine verses and it sure doesn't appear to have the makings of a lasting church. But Paul's letters, written several months later verify the survival of the little church. A key member of that infant church and the only one mentioned by name is Jason, who had welcomed Paul and Silas as well as the new Thessalonian believers into his house. Since Jason had a home in Thessalonica and is not mentioned prior to Paul's arrival, he was apparently among the new believers that had turned to Christ as a result of Paul's preaching. He was new in his faith, yet this didn't hinder him from offering hospitality, though he knew it was risky, and he paid the price for it. The church is made up of a lot of people like Jason; those who make a contribution to meet a need. The early church in Thessalonica needed a place to meet and Jason had welcomed them into his home. Consider how this has happened all through the Church age and in fact is now happening all around the world. Most of the time these people are not known apart from their own local setting, but their lives and contributions matter, such as Sean Johnson. Sean is a Brooklyn-based firefighter with the FDNY’s Incident Management Team and a firefighter with Ladder 170 on 9/11. He worked on Hurricane Sandy disaster recovery and is one of about 120 New York City firefighters, police officers and EMTs presently helping with Hurricane Harvey rescue. I've met many people like Jason through the years. Some have gone on to be with the Lord, others continue to serve essentially unheralded, since their work is for the glory of God rather than man's glory. Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber ![]() Prayer for those affected by Hurricane Irma: Father, we lift up those in the Carribean, in Florida, and other places who are displaced by the terrible flooding due to the recent hurricane. Give them coping skills as many are without the comforts provided in a dry home and by electricity. We pray that neighbor will help neighbor and that many volunteers will come alongside those in need in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. ![]() Throughout the autumn season these wagons are common sites along our rural roads. Brooksyne saw the first one for the season Sunday near Manheim, PA. ![]() A patriotic farmer lives near Mastersonville, PA Shawn is a friend who works at Val-Co.
