The gristmill in western Pennsylvania was one of the first rolling mills in the country, processing corn, oats, wheat and buckwheat for local customers.

"A Prayer For The New Year"

Note: Normally we write a message and then write the prayer to follow. Today our entire message is a prayer based upon 1 Peter 1:3-7, along with allusions to other Scripture passages. We purposefully wrote it in first person so readers can personalize the prayer:

Summary: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!" From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same I declare to You, Eternal Father, my full allegiance.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed" (1 Peter 1:3-7).

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!" From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same I declare to You, Eternal Father, my full allegiance and surrender my heart to be wholly devoted to You with the fruit of my lips continuously giving You praise.

I thank You that in Your great mercy You have given me a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. In Your magnificent mercy You reached down and saved my soul as You do for all who place their complete trust in You. You granted me a new birth when I humbled myself and publicly declared, "Yes! I want to follow Jesus Christ!" At that moment I began the journey of walking the straight and narrow way, the way of righteousness. Thank you for the living hope that I have through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

I rejoice in my spiritual inheritance that is being preserved for me in heaven. I have no worries that it will be stolen, lost, or that it has an expiration date, but with eternity's values in view I know that it will never perish, spoil or fade. I earnestly pray for an unflinching resolve not to look to the right nor to the left but to keep my eyes focused on You, Almighty God and Loving Father, and the eternal dwelling You are preparing for me. This inheritance that awaits me is safely kept in heaven for me, while I through faith am shielded by Your power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

I do not know what joys or sorrows I will experience in this new year. Grant me faith and strength to experience Your joy regardless of what I may face. I want to learn how to genuinely rejoice even in trials knowing that they ultimately prove the genuineness of my faith which is of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire. May all the experiences that come my way result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

In the ups and downs and the wilderness experiences of daily living You preserve my salvation that will be fully revealed in the last day. Though I have not seen You, I love You; and even though I do not see You now I believe in You and am filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy that flows from within me like springs of living water that never run dry.

Keep me loving, joyful, and dutiful in my Christian walk this new of year of 2016, enduring the spiritual race ever before me, while enlisting others to join me, as I march onward to Zion, the beautiful city of God. Amen.

Be encouraged today and have a very blessed New Year,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

Ncube family, New Year's meal 1/1/16
On New Year's Day we enjoyed a delicious Martin ham with all the fixings from our kitchen and our friends, the Ncubes, which we often feature on this site brought a couple of their native dishes as well. Some of their food was foreign but Tho also brought a pan of pinto beans, one of our favorite soups, far more popular in the southwest where we grew up than here in the northeast.

Mark Griffin, 12/31/15We have lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania for nearly 15 years and due to our ministry to the business community we meet many, many people and run into them often in the course of just being out and about.

We met Mark Griffin about seven years ago when he worked as an HR manager in one of the companies we serve as chaplains. He now has a business doing Christian Business Consulting called "In His Name HR". Last Thursday we saw Mark in a store and were able to catch up for a few minutes.

DonateWe want to thank all who have financially supported our ministry this past year. We realize there are many fine ministries and causes requesting support at this time but if the Lord would lead you we surely need and appreciate the financial support from our readers and listeners. Our ministry labor is comprised of half our time to Daily Encouragement and the other half to our chaplaincy ministry to companies for which we receive a fee (of course this percentage of time varies week by week). Each of these ministries essentially is the same as a part-time job (20+ hours weekly) for each of us. Our goal for many years is that each phase would provide half of our ministry expenses and income. If you would like to make a donation to our ministry see here for more information or donate directly online through my chaplain account here. Donations are tax deductible and will be receipted directly by my chaplaincy endorsing ministry.  Thank you!
