Thursday, July 15, 2010 "You Also Must Testify" "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, He will testify about Me. And you also must testify, for you have been with Me from the beginning" (John 15:26,27). ![]() ![]() Thank God for the witness of the Holy Spirit! In John's Gospel Jesus gives His final teaching to the disciples prior to His death. Repeatedly He speaks of the work of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was not only anticipating His death but His return to the Father. He told the disciples the Spirit of truth "will testify about Me." Have you considered the many ways this has taken place in your life? I've also heard remarkable stories from the mission field, such as Bruce Olson's, where the Holy Spirit has prepared the hearts of people years and even generations before the missionary came. But consider the phrase, "And you must also testify." This verse grips me because Christ emphasized it following His teaching on the witness of the Holy Spirit. As Christians we need to be careful that our proper dependence on the Holy Spirit does not become a dodging of our personal responsibility in witnessing to others. Christ said, "You must also testify." How are you testifying today? It begins by living a life that consistently demonstrates Christ-like character, which itself will stand out in today's morally decadent age. I hope you also have tracts, booklets and other helps available to distribute to the seekers around you. I hope your "space" bears a witness to your faith; it may be a poster or plaque with an expression of faith. But I hope you also are prepared and bold in your verbal witness of who Christ is and what He has done. The Holy Spirit is surely faithful in His part. Are we being faithful in ours? Be encouraged today, Stephen & Brooksyne Weber Daily Prayer: Father, You have called us to be faithful witnesses wherever we live and in whatever we do. You haven't delegated this responsibility just to those in vocational ministries, but to all who have experienced Your forgiveness through salvation. By Your grace we will be shining lights throughout our darkened nation so that others will see the glory of Christ in our lives and hear the message of hope in our faithful witness. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources (In some cases you may also need to click again to start the song.)
