"Ancient Words, Ever True!"

"And He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ" (Ephesians 1:9,10). "So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts" (2 Peter 1:19).

MailAll of us who regularly receive emails get messages that are of less importance than others.  We might ignore it, even delete it, or delay sending a response if it is not time sensitive.  But there are some messages that get our full attention and we hit reply as soon as we read it so that we can immediately respond to the email.

Consider the degree in which the human race has ignored and continues to ignore the most important message of all time from the instruction manual for life inspired by our Creator. Of course it's the Holy Bible I am speaking of. It is widely available and applicable to every generation since the beginning of time.  If you are reading our message you almost certainly have access it; so do those around you.  Yet for the most part the Bible's instructions are ignored and considered irrelevant by "enlightened" modern man. And increasingly these timeless decrees are mocked by many.

I am preparing today's message from here in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA at my comfortable desk on a beautiful mid-summer morning following nearly 2" of rain overnight. We are blessed!  This message will be transmitted to your computer using modern technology and will reach you in a matter of seconds after I submit it regardless of where you live in this world.  That's astounding isn't it?

Open BiblePaul wrote his letter to the Ephesians almost 2,000 years ago from prison, bound to a guard while doing so (not exactly the comforts of a private, air-conditioned office).  Consider the effort he made to communicate God's truth "to the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus" (1:1). It surely took a lot of time for the message to be delivered and read aloud as the people assembled in church.

My desire today is like Paul's and many, many others who have gone on before me and like those who presently serve as ministers of God.  I want to share a perspective from God's instruction manual and especially focus on the phrase "And He made known to us." What an extremely rich blessing.

Open BibleThank God that He has spoken and made known to us "the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure." Primarily and fundamentally we have His Son and the written Word of God.  "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed Heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe" (Hebrews 11:2).

"You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:14-17).

Bibles on shelfGod has clearly revealed His will and His way.  We have an absolutely adequate instruction manual that is so often left under-utilized or unread, even by believers.  Today in all the hustle and bustle of life consider and rejoice that the Almighty Maker of heaven and earth has spoken and made known His will to the human race.  Are you faithfully reading and heeding His instruction manual?  Is it your daily delight?

Daily prayer: Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your Word. I delight in your law. I will not neglect your Word. Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Amen.

Ancient words ever true
Changing me and changing you,
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart

"I Will Delight In The Law Of The Lord"  Video Brooksyne's Note: I've been leading out in this delightful and simple Scripture chorus at church lately and each time I do it blesses my heart.  Based on Psalm 1 it speaks of the way we can be grounded in God's Word and find His blessing in our lives.

Stephen's note:  Today I wanted to use a hymn titled "How Sure the Scriptures Are".  It is sung to the tune of "Crown Him With Many Crowns" and has an excellent message regarding the Scriptures.

How sure the Scriptures are!  God's vital, urgent Word,
As true as steel and far more sharp than any sword.
So deep and fine At His control
They pierce where soul and spirit join.

They test each human thought refining like a fire;
They measure what we ought to do and to desire
For God knows all; exposed it lies before His eyes
To whom we call.

Let those who hear His voice confronting them today
Reject the tempting choice of doubting or delay.
For God speaks still; His word is clear
So let us hear and do His will.

- Christopher Idle

Apparently no one has ever posted a video version of this wonderful hymn on YouTube but it was somewhat distressing that the first several entries based on this hymn title linked to Islamic websites!

Chaplaincy MinistriesNew feature: I am not much for publishing website statistics but sure enjoy geography. When I saw this widget that counts visitors by nation and state I thought it would be interesting to some of our readers. I installed the international widget 4/16/10 and the state widget 4/19/10 (thus the disparity in US state totals).  This widget only counts visits to the main page and daily archive.
