"The Choice"

"We don't want this man to be our king" (Luke 19:14).

There's a song I enjoy listening to by a group called "Point of Grace" that has a line that is so true, "Everybody's worshiping something, cause that's what we were made to do." The use of the word "worship" is often limited to a religious expression but in reality everybody, even the most ardent unbeliever and secularist, is indeed worshipping something. The root sense of worship is that which we attribute worth to. I recall an early teaching that pointed out that it is a shortening of worthship (I just verified this in a dictionary). Everybody is attributing worth to something.

The devil has had many agents through the ages and many faithfully serve him today.  The daily verse is taken from a parable that Jesus told shortly before His death.  The expression "We don't want this man to be our king", applies to Himself.  He had come into this world "to seek and to save that which was lost" but was violently rejected by many.

The apostle John wrote, "He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive Him" (John 1:11).  And for the last 2000 years men and women are confronted with the choice of whom to worship.  Pilate placed before the people this question, "What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?" and really that remains life's dominant question.

The song referred to above is titled, "I Choose You" and affirms the choice of who we serve and for this group a declaration that they choose to serve the Lord. Today we have a choice whether to submit to the Lordship and Kingdom of Jesus Christ or reject it and essentially proclaim, "We don't want this man to be our king."  I hope each reader will join me in choosing to serve and worship the Lord and proclaim, "I want this man to be my King!"

Be encouraged today,
