"The Daily Dose"

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it" (Isaiah 30:21).

My Mom is quite impulsive. At 84 she's on several medications and vitamins and the dosage is scheduled throughout the day. However she has tendency to get impatient, somewhat confused and would take them all at once, if she was not supervised. I suppose there's a sense that she just wants to get it over with, but medications are designed to be taken incrementally in doses.

I find myself that way a bit. Wouldn't it be great to take an annual vitamin on January 1?  There's a spiritual application here (of course). We live in an instant age where we would like to hear from God and then go on with life. I recall early in my pastoral ministry an elderly lady who had set out to read the Bible through in a year. She read quickly and consistently and by March she was done. After I commended her I asked her what she planned to do now. I still recall her saying, "Oh, I'm finished for the year."

We need daily doses of God's truth. A special conference is great, weekly church services are so important, but the real growth comes day by day as we seek to hear His voice.

All through our lives we need to remain sensitive to the leading of the Lord. God has at times called people in the midst of their comfort to change directions in fulfilling His will. That can be an especially hard time to be keen to His voice since we usually associate the comforts of life with His blessing.

However when we are in a state of transition and with uncertainty looming over our heads, this is particularly vital. How I long to hear the very direct voice of God saying "This is the way, walk in it." Since the beginning of the year I have been unemployed and am seeking to hear His voice and receive His leading. I am waiting for that open door. *

God has certainly not been silent and actually the sense of His faithfulness increases during times of uncertainty. I suppose in part that's due to the way we lean on Him, which is just what he wants us to do!

I want to encourage all of my fellow believers today. Whether you are in a time of comfort and stability or in transition and shifting, keep an ear tuned to hear His voice. His daily dosage of truth is always available and keeps you well-grounded!

Be encouraged today,

Stephen C. Weber

* Ministry update - Here's an update of my ministry situation for my family, friends and any that choose to read it!

Note from Brooksyne:  In the midst of transition we must clarify whose voice we're hearing.  The devil wants to cause doubt and confusion and leave us weak and impotent.  So many changes are taking place in our lives, but we must stay grounded spiritually by consistently finding His daily direction through reading His Word.  The Holy Spirit will help us distinguish Christ's voice and find confirmation of His leading through other people, circumstances, and especially during our devotional time with Him.

My Mom is doing very well and has returned to the Senior Center where she enjoys socializing with other elderly people. She had a follow-up appointment with her knee surgeon yesterday and received an excellent report and was told she can begin to use a cane. Here's a photo of her I took yesterday with her van driver, who has been especially kind to her.

Your comments are welcome! If you are the original recipient (a member of the mailing list) merely reply to this email. If not please visit this webpage. I sure appreciate the input and read each comment and am so often encouraged.  However due to the volume of email I receive I am not necessarily able to reply personally to each one. I regret this since often readers will share a particular need or have a specific question. I certainly do pray when I receive a prayer request and often my wife Brooksyne joins me.
