"Trusting in God" "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust
in God; trust also in me" (John 14:1).
Many, many hearts are troubled today. Here in America particularly we are focused on the hurricane aftermath along our Gulf coast and the hundreds of thousands who have been impacted. Yesterday I read a headline concerning the dire situation that stated, "The Equivalent of Armageddon." (Notwithstanding the horrors of those who are going through this, I surely believe when the real Armageddon is experienced we may find this is not at all the equivalent.) Today this event consumes the news but there are many other issues that trouble hearts, including matters that affect individuals such as accidents, illnesses, financial woes, family problems and tough decisions. And of course all over the world we are aware of just how vulnerable we are to determined, murderous terrorists. I am quite sure some of you reading this today have troubled hearts. Jesus gave the word of assurance in the daily text as he was preparing His disciples for the climactic events over the next several days. I believe His words are very applicable to any situation or trouble you are dealing with. He forthrightly commanded, "Do not let your hearts be troubled." We need to recognize that "peace of heart" is available in spite of the circumstances around us and this trust is a matter of obedience to this command of our Lord. Jesus said, "Trust in God; trust also in me." The key to having peace in our heart in the midst of trouble is to keep our trust and focus on the Lord. Today in whatever trouble you face I pray that trust and assurance will fill your heart and you will have the peace that surpasses understanding. Be encouraged today, Stephen C. Weber Prayer from Brooksyne: Jesus, the crisis that our fellow Americans face in New Orleans and all along the gulf coast is a very troubling site. We unite our hearts and lift our voices in prayer for those who continue to need food, water, shelter, and medical care. We look to You, God, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. You comfort us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble because we have experienced it time and time again. In our distress we learn patient endurance as we place our confidence in You. Our hope turns from a temporal wish to an eternal expectation based on the knowledge and personal application of Your words, "Trust in God; trust also in me." We choose to trust You today because You are trustworthy. And by Your grace we will trust You tomorrow! It is in Your name, Jesus, that we pray. Amen. On a personal level my heart is troubled concerning my Mom. Although medically she is much improved she is still very lethargic and confused. We hope to see her strengthened and improved to the extent we can bring her back to our home where she would really like to live but realize at some point we will be unable to and she will need institutionalized care. I also realize many children have gone through this before me and are going through it now. Sign
