WELCOME LETTER TO DAILY EMAIL LIST

Thank you for your subscription to the Daily Encouragement Devotional. Your email address has been confirmed and placed on the mailing list!

NOTE: Some ISPs now use e-mail filtering software that allows you to add e-mail addresses to your 'buddy', 'safe', or 'approved' list. Please add us to yours. Thanks!

Please read this introductory letter and I suggest you keep it on file.

Your subscription to this devotional perspective came through our website or perhaps you subscribed using the instructions on an encouragement that had been forwarded to you or from a printed card. If you do not begin to receive the devotional perspective regularly it may be that your email settings are set to screen all group mail (in this case change the settings) or it seems some ISP s may screen all group mail (attempting to protect their clients from what they assume to be unsolicited mail or SPAM). On several email programs you may benefit by placing the "from" address for the encouragement in your address book or "buddy" list. This will keep it from being filtered: That "from" address is:

Daily Encouragement [scweber@dailyencouragement.net]

Privacy Statement: "Your e-mail address is held in strict confidence in a password protected mail list that is not publicly accessible. It will not used for any other purpose but this daily devotional list and will never be given out or sold to a third party. You may cancel your subscription at any time."

If this subscription request is in error and you do not desire to receive this daily mailing please inform me by merely sending an email to the unsubscribe address in the footer and your address will promptly be removed. I apologize for bothering you, but am merely responding in good faith to the subscribe request. I do not harvest or intentionally send unsolicited email of any sort and do not wish to mail to anyone except those who have specifically requested that I do so. Periodically I will receive spurious subscriptions likely caused by someone (perhaps well-meaning) signing up others that they feel would be interested. I disapprove of this practice.

Background of the Daily Encouragement Devotional

1. In October of 1996 I preached a message at the church I pastored at the time in New England from Hebrews 3:13 that states that we are to "encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness". At the time I pondered on how a body of believers could practically apply this verse in our lives and more specifically how I could! I was especially intrigued by the emphasis on "daily". One idea came to me. With so many having E-mail I thought I would develop a mailing to "encourage daily". I don't know about you, but I like to check my e-mail and I sure need encouragement (or exhortation in the KJV). This mailing normally consists of a Scripture verse and several paragraphs of comment. Occasionally I will also place the words of a song in as well.

2. The devotional perspective is based on a firm commitment to Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Although I will use personal and contemporary illustrations at times, I believe that ultimately we all need a regular challenge from the Bible. I will at times confront the contemporary secular worldview as I feel led from the perspective of God's Word.

3. I write the devotional early each morning during the workweek.  It's real time! I want the devotional to convey the reflections of a fellow brother in Christ seeking to live each day with the assurance that God is working in my life on a day by day basis. The sub-theme of this ministry is "Living today anchored in God's solid foundation". I particularly desire to provide a brief daily spiritual perspective to believers in the corporate world. After all, we all have plenty of the world's ways coming at us! I normally mail it out each weekday morning by 9:00 AM Eastern time, although this varies due to the time it takes me to prepare the devotional and distractions.

4. Certainly you may forward and pass along the devotional if you think it would be meaningful to a friend. In fact I encourage you to do so since this has been a source of many subscriptions and is also good web ministry. However please place a personal note above it so the forwarded devotional is not received as unsolicited "spam". Also you may need to take a few minutes to reformat it since many forwards are full of annoying extra characters.

5. If a particular devotion is a blessing please reply and let me know by either replying to the message or using this address. I need encouragement too! However please do not place this or other administrative addresses on a group forward list for stories, jokes, virus warnings, etc.  You can imagine how much of this type of e-mail I get!

6. If for any reason you ever want your address removed from the list merely follow the "unsubscribe" directions at the end of each posting. Your address will promptly be removed.

7. The daily mailing and the content of our website is offered as a ministry without any cost whatsoever. We do not use any advertising on either medium since in our opinion this would clutter and confuse our message, nor do we offer any items for sale. We merely rely on the Lord to provide for the expenses of this ministry as He leads people to support it. Free-will offerings are indeed appreciated and may be mailed to the address below.  For more information on support see this page.

8. Who I am: Cyberspace can be mysterious and anonymous, so let me tell you a little about me. I am a 51-year-old now living in southeastern Pennsylvania, very happily married for 29 years to Brooksyne, with a teenage daughter, Ester.  You'll see their names in the devotional at times. I am a native of Missouri, Brooksyne is from Oklahoma, and Ester is from Guatemala! I primarily minister through this internet ministry. Prior to that I served with an EAP agency for four years, pastored in Massachusetts for seven 1/2 years and in northwest Pennsylvania for nearly sixteen years. I am a graduate of Central Bible College in Springfield, MO.
