"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3). "Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:25).
Convenience stores are very popular here in America. Several years ago in Massachusetts a promotional slogan by the state sponsored gambling ring was, "Set for life". It showed happy people who had struck it big in the lottery and were now “set for life”. What a cruel lie from a morally bankrupt government! So many people are so desperate for hope and thus what a cruel hoax this is. And what a contrast to the straightforward truths in our daily verses.
These two verses provide a rich assurance to all believers and remind us of the source of our authentic hope in Christ. The apostle Peter opens his epistle with a content-filled praise to God and I am so blessed by the simple phrase "a living hope".
People all live needing some sense of hope. So many hope in the hopeless though. Convenience store parking lots are practically coated with those obnoxious lottery scratch tickets, all representing failed hope.
Those of us who trust in Christ have a living hope. As we live out our lives we have many of the same problems as everyone else. But our perspective differs based on an empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Our hope is alive.
"He always lives" and herein lies a wonderful, wonderful assurance that is blessing me even as I type this out this morning. I, like most of you, have plenty to worry about and plenty to discourage me. But I have a living hope! And so do you!

"Our
Living Hope!"
