"Healthy Craving"

"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good"  (1 Peter 2:2,3).

Early this morning my neighbor called me and told me about midnight they heard a lot of bawling out in the barn. So he went to examine and came upon a newborn calf! Even experienced farmers never weary of seeing the wonder of new life.

It's been years since I helped out on a farm, but one image that I remember is a young calf feeding from its mother.  My, would those calves eat.  That is a vital sign to the farmer of the calf's health.  A lack of desire to nurse signals a serious problem.

Spiritual hunger is a vital sign of spiritual health as well.  Peter illustrates this hunger with the analogy of a newborn baby and their craving for milk.  But he speaks of craving "pure spiritual milk."

I believe he is referring to the Word of God.  This is a prime means of spiritual growth.  It also seems to me that Peter is making this appeal to all believers, not just new ones.  Whether we're new in our faith or have walked with the Lord for many years, all of us, like newborn babies, are to crave pure spiritual milk.

How's your spiritual appetite today?

Be encouraged today

Brooksyne's note: (Perhaps this is an appropriate prayer for me and any others who can identify) "Jesus, help my spiritual appetite to be the focus of my day.  May you help my hunger for food that brings temporary satisfaction to be secondary to my hunger for spiritual food that brings eternal reward and internal change.  As I look to You and stay grounded in your Word I am confident that you will hear and answer this prayer.  Amen."
